Maintain, Don't Gain!

by ‎12-08-2016 11:30 PM - edited ‎12-14-2016 01:57 PM

Happy Friday!! As we head into the homestretch of this crazy holiday season, I know the temptations are there in full force to overindulge and pack on some bonus pounds we didn't plan on! So I thought I'd share a few recipes I've found that help me do the one thing I try to do during the holidays:

Maintain, don't gain!

You may have read about my journey with weight loss before, but if you haven't you can discover my entire story here > My Weight Loss Journey

The whole idea is to put any lofty goals of dropping major pounds off until after the holidays. The more achievable goal is to focus on making good choices and simply NOT gaining. Then when the temptations subside and January is here, we can hit the reset button, set a goal and start working toward it in earnest!

In the continued spirit of making best choices during the holidays, I thought I'd share a quick and tasty salad you can whip up either to bring to a potluck, or portion out during the week! Tip: have a share of it before heading to a party to avoid the temptation of overindulging on treats as it has a tart and sweet kick :-)

Waldorf Salad

1/4 cup lowfat yogurt

tsp honey

3 tblsp orange juice

1/4 tsp ginger

2 small apples, cored and chopped

4 celery stalks, sliced

1/2 cup purple seedless grapes, halved

1/4 cup dried cranberries or cherries

1/2 cup toasted walnuts

6 cups romaine lettuce, chopped

Mix together the first four ingredients and drizzle over the rest!

Here's a great breakfast you can mix up at home and have ready when the early morning urge for a sweet treat hits. It tastes far more guilt-inducing than it is! Bonus: you can make extra to give as stocking stuffers as well (see pic)!

In a jar, mix:

1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour

1 tbsp. ground flaxseed

1 tsp each baking powder, ground cinnamon and ground ginger

1/2 tsp ground allspice

1/4 tsp nutmeg

When you're ready to make, mix with 2 cups milk of your choice and pour onto the griddle!
