June in Ireland signals the beginning of summer, and the first week  - better known as " exam week" when students sit their State exams  - usually brings a spell of warm and sunny weather … time for the first ice cream of the season !!

Less than a mile from our workshops the legendary Hughes brothers founded their Hazelbrook dairy over 100 years ago, and produced milk, butter AND Ice cream.

The farm is long gone, and even the ice cream factory is moved away, but I have the best of memories from the 60's of the flavour of the famous ' Choc Ice' and ' Brunch' Ice creams.

They are still on sale, and for me are a real taste of childhood. And always a controversy in our home , which one to choose !

But, the ultimate luxury still is the ' 99' cone. It's origins are still a mystery, but it's basically a whippy Vanilla ice cream with a stick of Chocolate flake added. For me, this remains the best treat, where you splash out your last pocket money and enjoy the mix of ice cream and chocolate right down to the very last bite.

Do you have a favourite Ice cream, or fond memory of Summer treats long ago ?? let me know.

Oh , and by the way mark your calendar in GREEN - July 15th and 16th will feature two one hour shows of Irish items on  the QVC Christmas in July special event.

More news to come soon, (there will be a new Connemara nativity and new Connemara and Waterford piece)  and in the meantime check out CONNEMARA MARBLE for the latest hot deals.

All the best from sunny Ireland !!
