If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you probably know my sweet puppy ROSCOE. He’s my best friend and the love of my life.

On Valentine’s Day 12 years ago I attended the Westminster Dog Show at Madison Square Garden in NYC with friends. I attended the show for fun but in the back of my mind was something Joan had been telling me for years: get yourself a dog! (The only dog I really knew was Joan’s famous little guy Spike, a true gentleman….)

The dog show is quite a fancy affair, with champagne being poured and hundreds of beautiful, world-class, champion dogs competing for Best in Breed and Best in Show. There was one breed that I thought was just outstanding, the smooth fox terrier. I made my decision that night, I was getting a dog and it was going to be a “smooth” (as they are affectionately called by their owners.)

Roscoe came to me through Winnie Stout, a woman who is well known in the smooth fox circles for her beautiful dogs and her rescue efforts with the breed. On more than one occasion over the years, I have been stopped on the street and asked if Roscoe was a “Winnie Stout fox terrier”!

He was the cutest puppy I could imagine and a love affair began that very day!

When Roscoe was 9 months old there was a terrible accident. While walking him in NYC on a Saturday night, Roscoe broke off of his leash and ran into traffic and was struck by not one but two cars. He spent a good amount of time recovering at Animal Medical Center in NYC and the amazing doctors there helped him to a full recovery. It was the absolute worst period of my life, but in the end Roscoe pulled through. Since then, I’ve held him even closer to my heart.

Roscoe has quite the life. He toggles back and forth between New York City and his country house in Pennsylvania not far from QVC. In fact, one of the reasons we built the house was for Roscoe to have land to run around on.

While he is the cleanest, most meticulous dog I have ever known, he does need the occasional bath (chasing those pesky groundhogs in the mud!) It’s actually something that he doesn’t really seem to mind. (And he knows there will be MAJOR treats afterwards….)

His very first bath!!! He’s so tiny!!!

All grown up and loving his bath!!

And towel dry and a quick mani/pedi!!!

Roscoe loves to play dress-up any time of the year. Or, should I say, he tolerates me dressing him up?

He's an awesome dog. About to turn 12 and going strong! He can still wear me out playing fetch on the lawn. Our vet always jokes that he has two speeds: on and off.

Thought I would finish this blog with my favorite picture of my little boy. He’s probably 7 or 8 years old here.

This is still his favorite chair and he still melts my heart like it was yesterday….

Are you a dog person? I would love to hear about your four legged buddy! And maybe post a picture or two!!

David, You can just tell what a great personality Roscoe has by just looking at him. You are lucky to have each other! My very first dog ever at age 8 was a "smooth" fox terrier his name was Teddy and he was a wonderful little guy will always cherish my memories of him😍 many many years later we now have a 10 year old maltese and 5 year old Jack russell chi mix Jamie and Nicky I had posted their pic on your Facebook page!!! Wishing you and Roscoethe happiest of holidays!

David, we have a golden named Toby, and he is AMAZING! He's our third golden and all three have taken over my heart completely.  I love your story, and feel your connection with Roscoe. There's nothing like the love between a dog and his owner/family. Nothing.

(Oh, I and I own 13 boyfriend sshirts.....side note.....hehe.....).

Merry Christmas!!

Roscoe is adorable - I too love the picture of him in the chair - precious!  We have a darling little Pekingese, Mitzi Wu - although I wish we had named her Joy as she is a complete joy.  If I recall correctly, I believe Joan had a Pekingese.  I think the Joan Rivers line of clothing epitomizes a classy, refined, lady-like style of clothing.  I feel like an elegant "lady" when I wear the Joan Rivers line (which is what I thought Joan was - a true "lady.")  I also love her jewelry to complement the clothing.

David, you are a true Gentleman.  I know exactly how you feel. Six years ago I rescued a little Poodle Maltese mix from the Humane Society.  The quiet dog there with the saddest eyes.  I had no intention, just bringing towels and food. They said she was five, later the Vet thought around two. That would make her eight today.

She loves dress up, with pink bows and sweaters.  She has a Martha Stewart coat, a couple, one for spring and a heavier one for Autumn.  For winter, a pink faux suede coat with faux sheared lining.  We go everywhere that is possible together.  She has saved my life.  I am now 79, live alone.  I still have lots of life, like Joan, my inspiration.  I loved that Broad, and cried my eyes out when she left.  I also as you may guess, have many of her clothes and Jewerly. You are doing a wonderful job carrying on her line.

I wish I could send a picture of my cutie, MELANIE, but do not know how.  She is White, with dark, shoe button eyes that just stare you down in the cutest way.   She loves walks in the park and loves to swing on My lap.  DOESN,t like the beach. Because of her lady like manner, she is a Therapy dog and visits Hospitals and Nursing homes.  My best to you and ROSCOE.  HE IS SO HANDSOME. You also.

David, Thanks so much for sharing Roscoe with us.  He is adorable.   I have 4 cats now, but years back I had two dogs who melted my heart.

One of my best friends has a small smooth fox terrier named "Baby Girl" and he loves to dress her up in a gorgeous pink plaid dress and pearls, yes REAL pearls.  She then goes by the name Co Co Chanel.  Oh, I love it.

All the best to you this holiday season and I'll be sure to watch and shop your shows!  Have a great holiday and THANKS AGAIN for sharing yourself and Roscoe with us.

Roscoe is beautiful! My childhood dog was a "mostly" smooth fox terrrier. Couldn't have loved her more. Rescued from a bad situation and she had a wonderful life. Roscoe has the same face.

I love this post. You are saying all the right things for a perfect Pet Parent.  Besides being part of an animal rescue, the love of my life is a rescued Siberian Husky.  In my opinion, this is what life is about!!!  Too bad you aren't in Jersey, we have a wonderful Holiday Photo event this weekend and all proceeds go to rescued animals.  If anyone is in the Middletown area, please stop by and visit us.December 12th.jpg

You have no idea how much I LOVE seeing posts of Roscoe on iGram, FB - and here!   Joan was ALWAYS right.   She told you to "get a dog" - and clearly he has made your life even more wonderful!

Joan told "me"  (speaking to "Blondes Everywhere") - which coat color we 'MUST OWN' from Dennis Basso's Coat Collection - a luscious soft pink sherpa coat with a faux fur trimmed hood".   She popped in  during his presentation, and put on the coat that was not being shown by a model & proceeded to tell us all "who should wear it". I've received more compliments on that coat than any other (although I've purchased 3 more DB's since!  LOL))   She always knew what was "good", and if she didn't believe it, she didn't say it!

YOU are exactly the same. I look forward to seeing you at every opportunity.   "Dapper David"??  It suits you.  (But, ask Roscoe, just to be sure!  lol)
All the best wishes for a Spectacular, Happy Holiday Season...may you be surrounded by love & joy! <3 <3 <3

Thank you for being such a wonderful animal lover.  Eight years ago, I rescued my lab from the Humane Society. She had been badly abused.  Still has all the burn scars on her tummy.  It was love at first sight.  She has been the love of my life ever since.  Of couse, because she's a lab had to have a little professional dog training help (think Marley!).  The trainer said he would be training me more than her!  She's 9 now and when I took her to the vet today for shots, he said she will always be a puppy.  I rescued her but more importantly, she rescued me.
