Joan Rivers' Christie's Auction - Sneak Peek

We always knew Joan Rivers had incredible taste…but to see it up close, just took my breath away.  As you look through the pictures below, I think you get an extraordinary view of who Joan was in all aspects of her life-what she loved to surround herself with in her quiet moments at home, the importance of her family and friends, her passion for beauty in art, jewelry, and design.

The furniture displays are set up just like Joan’s apartment.  She loved ornate design elements, lots of gold, and muted color pallettes.

Joan loved to entertain…her dinner parties and holiday celebrations are legendary!  Her collection of china, silver, and serving pieces filled dozens of cases.

Some of the most talked about items in the auction include this painting by Edouard Vuillard and pieces from Joan’s famous Faberge collection.

The carved nephrite jade leaf is exquisite…and the picture frames, with photos the way Joan had them displayed, remind us that she wasn’t just the famous Joan Rivers…she was a wife and mother too.

This diamond flower pin by Harry Winston is also getting a lot of attention.  Joan designed this piece for herself.  Incredible!

And there were many items in her collection that she recreated in her collection for QVC…some of you might remember these various Victorian flower pins….

And Joan did love a good handbag!  Oh!  The CHANEL!!!  She also had a lovely assortment of evening clutches by Judith Leiber.

Dresses by Bob Mackie, Oscar de La Renta, clothing by Dolce and Gabbana, Lanvin…you name it, Joan wore it!

I had several people ask me if I was going to bid on anything during the auction.  I’ve thought about it (I think Joan would have told me that a Chanel handbag was a good investment!) but honestly, what I already have from Joan Rivers is priceless…memories of a wonderful woman, a mentor, a friend, an inspiration….I think I’ll keep my credit card in my wallet, and smile knowing that while many people might go home with a “thing” that belonged to Joan, I have something much more valuable.
