Friday Favorites - Movies I Love

by ‎06-02-2016 06:36 PM - edited ‎06-03-2016 10:57 AM

I have always loved watching a movie.  And in this day and age of movies on demand, I especially love that I can enjoy a favorite film any time of the day or night!  I often put on a movie when I’m home cleaning and folding laundry…it keeps me company!  And we have a “family movie night” almost every week (sometimes a weekend movie marathon!).

There are certain films I never get tired of watching…so if you’re in the mood to watch something new, or rediscover a favorite from years gone by, here are some of my top flick picks.

1. The Shawshank Redemption….what I love about this movie is that at it’s core, it’s a movie about friendship.  I could watch the scene where Red describes Andy Dufraine’s escape a million times.

2. The Hundred Foot Journey….I am so charmed by this movie.  I couldn’t wait to share it with my Mom and my kids.  They loved it too!  It’s special….see it if you haven’t yet.

3. 13 Going on 30….okay, my favorite thing about this movie is the multitude of references to growing up in the 80’s (which I did).  No, this was not an Oscar contender, but it is a really cute movie.

4. It’s Complicated….I loved and laughed at this movie so much that I watched it 2 days in a row…and have just about worn out my DVD.  Meryl Streep is wonderful….and this is my most favorite role for Alec Baldwin ever.  He’s so good.

5. The Bourne trilogy….adventure, intrigue, and cute Matt Damon.  It’s not often that a continuing series of films maintains the excitement of the first…I’ve always felt that this series did so very well.

6. The Lord of the Rings trilogy…hats off to Doug in our early days of dating for taking me to the first film.  I really didn’t want to see it….didn’t think it was my kind of movie.  WRONG!  They are so magical…beautiful to watch….engaging stories and characters…I love this series (and who wouldn’t crush a little on Viggo Mortenson in these films?)  I’ve seen the Hobbit movies too…personally, I liked Lord of the Rings better.

7. Star Wars, episodes 4,5,6 and now 7!  I’m sorry…it just doesn’t get better on a rainy afternoon than a day with Han Solo, Chewbacca and 3 CPO.  Why don’t I ever get tired of watching these movies?  Part of it is sentimental as I have fond memories of the 70’s and 80’s ,when the first movies came out.  But they really are a fun ride…every, single time.

8. The Devil Wears Prada….Oh, Miranda Preistly…you are the most delicious character in films in a long time….and your wardrobe isn’t too bad either.

9. The Wizard of Oz…probably not a surprise to those of you who know how much I love this movie.  We just watched it again as a family recently…and the joy it still brings, after all these years, is perhaps my favorite part about this film.  We all still laugh at the cowardly lion, ache for the tin man, adore the loyalty of the scarecrow…and lust after Dorothy’s shoes!

10. Movies about sports….I’m going to lump a few together here….Field of Dreams, Remember the Titans, Rudy, Miracle, Invincible, The Natural….these are all family favorites for the undercurrent of inspiration and wonder that comes from the world of sports and their players.

I’m not saying these are the best movies ever made…they’re just movies that I’ve really enjoyed time and time again.  I could have added a few more….but when I really think about “what would be fun to watch…again” these are the tops on my list.

I’m sure you have some all time faves too….tell me in the comments below…I’d love to know if I’ve missed one…and since it’s the weekend, it might give me something new to watch!

xoxo,

JB
