Four Eateries to Explore in Austin, TX

Recently, I was lucky enough to spend a few days with my mom and my sister in Austin, TX. I love these ladies to the moon and back and relish every single second with them both.

We ate at some GREAT places and wanted to share them with you! Here is the first one: the Salty Sow... And the photo below? THESE are Duck Fat Fries...

Yes, they are fried in duck fat AND they have a 110 minute egg on top (that's how long it slow-cooks). The egg on top, combined with the spices added to the fries, makes the perfect "dippy". <insert Homer face here> They are THAT GOOD.

Next on my list? Amy's Ice Cream!! They have over 350 AMAZING flavors to choose from, so I had the Cocoa Pudding Ice Cream with hot fudge, fresh strawberries and a NAP.

Next, and in no particular order, I recommend the Steeping Room. For my gluten free friends, take note: they can make the majority of their menu gluten free! WHOOP! SO, I had their #glutenfree Croque Monsieur. It was the best C.M. I've EVER had.

Last, but certainly not least: when in Texas, eat BBQ! We ate the Holy Trinity at Freedmen's BBQ.

That right there is some of the FINEST brisket, pork spare rib, and house-made sausage I have been lucky enough to get my hands on. On the side?! I little horseradish potato salad for good measure (I get the vapors just typing about it). If nothing else, please check out this establishment's history. Absolutely incredible.

And with that, it's back to lighter eating for a little while, MY GOODNESS! When you go on a trip, I feel like one of the most-fun things you can do is to experience the local food. I am not a mountain climber, or a skydiver, or a spelunker, but I will go for a food adventure ANY DAY!

So, how about you? Do you try new foods? Have you been to (or live in) Austin and have some recommendations for us? I sure would love to read them! As always, thank you for reading & happy eating! ~ Mary D
