Nearly thirty years ago I was engaged to be married.  The plans were in place, and I thought this was my path in life.  Some of the twinges I was experiencing, I chalked up to pre-wedding nerves.  

One night my Mom and I were watching one of our favorite movies, The Sound of Music.  When it came to the wedding scene, and Maria started up the aisle, they took a shot of Captain Von Trapp.  I pictured myself going up the aisle, seeing my fiancé at the end, and something clicked.  I turned off the TV, looked at my Mom and said, "I can't marry him."  My wise mother said, "Thanks be to God."  She knew this wasn't the love of my life but let me find my way.

You know the rest of the story, about a year later I started dating Sean, and within a few weeks I just knew he was the one.  When we started planning our wedding, my brother Tom was arranging the music.  We knew there was only one choice for our wedding march, the one from The Sound of Music! 

 

When our girls came along, and people would come to visit, they would act out the "So Long Farewell" song as people were leaving (at ages 7 and 2!)  The movie continued to mean so much to us, Cara especially used the song "Climb Every Mountain" to get through some difficult times as she pursued her dreams.

This summer we finally took the trip we have been dreaming of for years, to Salzburg to visit the sights of the city of our favorite movie, as well as honoring Mozart and our love of the arts.   

We loved every moment of our trip to Salzburg, it was breathtakingly beautiful!  

 

We flew in and out of Munich, Germany and had a wonderful time exploring the city and the castles of Bavaria.

One of our most memorable moments was when we got to the Cathedral in Mondsee, Austria, the setting for the wedding in The Sound of Music.  I even wore my wedding earrings (and a white Isaac Mizrahi dress!) We said a special prayer for our marriage and our family, grateful that we could "find our dream" trip together!
