Falling For New Beauty Trends

by ‎10-19-2015 03:45 PM - edited ‎10-20-2015 10:14 AM

It’s officially fall on the east coast and you know what that means - we’re settling nicely into chunky knits and eagerly awaiting full force fall where we can layer the contents of our closets with a fragrant pumpkin latte in hand. And while we may be ready to fall into fall, we’re still reminiscing over the beautiful garments launching next spring and the crazy fashion week that just shook up New York.

Spring/Summer Fashion Week has always been my favorite time of year. While I eagerly await the flawless garments that walk the catwalk each season, I have always been way more interested in the beauty trends. I love to see how a makeup look can transform an outfit or can change the look or feel of an entire show. This season I was surprised to see so many natural makeup looks. Designers like Tommy Hilfiger, Victoria Beckham, Alexander Wang and more showcased their models natural beauty with dewy makeup that enhanced their features, while designers like Oscar de la Renta and Anna Sui stuck to classic red lips and black liner. Color wasn’t completely absent, I loved how designers like Phillip Lim and DVF stood out by experimenting with bright blue liner.

So while spring may be a few months away, I’m going to show you how to achieve these runway beauty looks and how to incorporate them into your fall beauty routine.

Natural Beauty

Frame Your Face with beautifully shaped eyebrows

This look is all about enhancing your natural beauty and is very easy! Start by shaping and grooming your brows. If you want a natural look, go with your true shade. I use Wander Beauty’s Frame Your Face Micro Tip Brow Pencil in Taupe, but if you want a bolder on-trend brow, go one shade darker. Start by brushing up your brows to expose any sparse areas. Draw gentle strokes to mimic the shape of your hair, then define your arch and outer edge of your brow. You can easily extend the length of your brows if they stop short. I like to finish off with the inner edge of my brows. A great tip is to line up our pencil with the side of your nose. If your brows don’t reach the pencil, our micro tip is perfect for creating a very natural yet enhanced shape.

Our new Flash Focus Hydrating Foundation Stick is infused with coconut oil and hyaluronic acid which helps to reduce the appearance of surface imperfections such as fine lines and wrinkles. I especially need this added hydration when the seasons change. I use our light shade every morning to even out my skin tone. This buildable formula is perfect for covering my hyperpigmentation or to use as a touch up stick on days when I don’t want to wear a lot of makeup. Next I use our On-the-Glow Blush and Illuminator to accentuate my features and give my cheeks a natural flush. I apply our Nude Glow Illuminator to my brow bone for an instant lift, my cheek bones to make my skin look more youthful, inner eyes to brighten, and all over my lips to make them look fuller!

Brighten your eyes with blue eyeliner

Smudge it out for a subtle smokey eye

Blue eyeliner has been having a major moment on the runways and red carpets! I love switching up my classic black cat eye with our Indigo Blue shade. It instantly opens and brightens your eyes. Our Slide Liner Gel Eyeliner is a deeper blue so it's very wearable. It can be worn in so many ways and allows for some play time so it can be smudged and then will set and last all day. I love to line my upper lash line with black eyeliner and then draw a thicker blue line on my lower lash line and smudge it out. It's a fun way to play with color for fall and so on-trend. Let me know how you like to wear blue eyeliner in the comments below!

A beauty classic: red lips and a black cat eye

Red lipstick and a black eyeliner flick will never go out of style. It's an old Hollywood look I love! Our innovative Love Lock Hydrating Lip Gel was just named the best sheer red lipstick by Harper's Bazaar! This is a multitasking lip gel infused with prickly pear extract, a potent hydrator. You can wear it as a subtle stain or build up for that classic Parisian red lip. So, if you're typically not a red lipstick wearer, this one is for you!

Go bold with a few extra layers!

I find gel eyeliners are the easiest to use when creating a classic cat eye. There's no mess and they glide on your eyes like silk! I like to start at the middle of my lash line and draw a line outwards close to the roots of my lashes. The line should gradually thicken towards the outer edge of your eye. I finish off with a thin line from my inner corner and connect it to the middle. For the eyeliner flick, a great tip is to line your pencil with the outer edge of your eye and end of your eyebrow. This is a great reference for the direction of your flick and will also keep both eyes even. Draw a small dot where you want your flick to end and connect the dot to your line. Voila! A simple cat eye that will get you out the door in minutes.
