Do you want to see the silversmiths who make your pieces?

I have just returned from Taxco, Mexico (just in time for the deep freeze), where I met with all my silversmiths to discuss and receive the new designs that I have been working on for my next few shows.  I thought you might like to see the craftspeople who are responsible for the high quality of the pieces you have from Taxco Traditions.

My Taxco Team

Donaciano and Gloria:  Two very talented silversmiths.  You hear me speak of them often.

Don Joaquin Beltran and his son-in-law Azael.  Don Joaquin has been working with me for over 20 years.

I would like to delve a little into what Taxco Traditions means to me.  It means working with silversmiths who really care about what they make, who are proud of their skill, and who pass that skill on to their children with joy.  They are skilled in interpreting my designs with great intuition.  I am blessed that I have been a part of their lives for all this time!  I remember the first Taxco Traditions show hosted by Lisa Robertson.  At that time I did not guest although that first show was strictly my pieces (I think that was about 18 years ago!!!).  My husband and I had taken Lisa and Gail and Eric (both QVC QA decision makers) to Taxco so that they could see and understand how everything was truly hand made.  That was a long time ago, but I recently met with Gail and showed her some of the pictures and she certainly remembered Don Joaquin who used an ax handle as a form for shaping the bracelets.  It means a lot to me that I am still working with some of the same artisans and that we have maintained a wonderful relationship after all this time.  It is truly a joint effort!

We all know that the cost of silver has affected the prices of the pieces (silver was under $5 when we started Taxco Traditions and is well over $30 today),  but I believe they are still crafting magnificent pieces and adapting to working lighter so that pieces can still be affordable.  But it is a challenge for all.

Thank you for sharing your time with me on January 17th and I am looking forward to my show in April.  More about that later – I have some exciting new pieces for you!  Please share you desires and thoughts with me.  Oh, by the way, I am going to India in about 10 days to search for more beautiful stones. Any requests?

Peace,

Dominique
