DAVID DANGLE’S FAVORITE SEASON: FALL!!!

I love all seasons of the year, but fall is particularly my favorite. The colors of the leaves, the food, the fall clothes, and of course roaring fireplaces!!

I thought I would share some moments of fall at my place in PA right now and in years past.

Still warm enough in the evenings for dinner outside with a fire!

Food is always wonderful in the fall when the end-of-season vegetables from the garden come into play. Squash, green tomatoes, pumpkins, herbs, and root vegetables.

Here is an easy, hearty side dish I love to serve to friends as I put the garden to bed:

I love to layer zucchini, yellow squash and the last of the tomatoes in a casserole dish, sprinkle with fresh thyme and sautéed onions. Finish the dish off with a generous toss of breadcrumbs and olive oil and bake until the squash is tender. I serve this dish with a simple roasted chicken and a hearty red wine. Perfection!!

And there is nothing like bundling up by the fire pit after dinner and finishing your wine!!

Be sure to check my Facebook next Friday (National Dessert Day!) for my favorite fall dessert, a plum torte (that is so easy to make!) using local plums from the farm up the street!! It’s a classic and so delicious.

Joining me in my love of this glorious season is my sweet dog Roscoe. Roscoe will turn 13 in January and loves playing outdoors.

I went pumpkin shopping recently and found really nice ones (at a great price!) at my local grocery store!
