what's with the odd smell?

Someone please help me here if I'm missing something - just got Old Fashioned Eggnog & Cinnamon Buns because of the stellar reviews, & I gotta know - am I the only one who's received this that can smell something akin to paint w/a faint vanilla scent? I was so excited about them but soooo disappointed when I opened them.....I got the Pumpkin Spice Muffin at the same time, & that smelled great, but those other two...not so much. Did I just get a bad batch, maybe?? I love vanilla-type scents but this experience has scared me off of anything close to these. I also have Mulling Spices 3-in-1/lotion duo, & I love it. So some of my recent purchases have been wonderful - I just wonder what's going on with these two.
