Hi ladies....I have a favor to ask.  I have fine, thin hair and while its been like this for many years...either its getting worse or I am just sick of it...maybe both.  I have never been to a doctor or anyone else abut this.  I'm thinking about maybe seeing someone but not really sure where to start. I'm not interested in trying differenct tonics, hair products..I'm past that...

Help from anyone else who has gone or going through this...

Thanks,

Mary

Been through this too for most of my life.  I now wear my hair in a french twist when I'm going to be home all day and I've bought 2 wigs in my natural hair color.  I wear these when I have house guests or am going out in public.  You get accustomed to it very quickly.  Good luck.  I know how you feel.

Re: thin fine hair in women

Nothing wrong with seeing a doctor about it.  There are medical reasons for thinning hair.  You can ask any doctor to start looking.  Most people consider a dermatologist to be a specialist in hair issues.

Age and hormone status are big reasons.  As we get older, our hair usually thins, especially after menopause.

Low thyroid and anemia can be other causes.  Simple blood tests can detect those.  Some medications have hair loss as a side effect  (especially when starting them).

Seeing a doctor might give you some peace of mind too.

I purchased the I-Grow Laser (here on QVC) for my husband, and he is seeing some results.  He has that pretty bad male heredity hair loss.  There are a few laser devices for hair growth, and they have long return periods to try them.

Hope you get answers!

Hello, Annabellethecat here.  I posted on this same subject just last week, I think it is.

I have the same problem.  Like other posters (the one here was great in what she said, exactly like me with the wig).

I got my wig from Toni Brattin.  Everyone thinks it is natural.  The important thing, I think, like the other poster said is it is close to my hair color (a little lighter).  It is a short bob just under my ear.

I wash it and it falls into place.  When I don't wear it I look at least (not exaggerating) 20 years older.  I haven't colored my hair in months because I just wear the wig.  It's so easy to put it on.

I also have the thing the hair thing the other lady said her husband has and uses.  I am just too lazy to use it.  Can you believe it.  I paid all that money for it and it's sitting here on the table.  Look up Toni Brattin wigs.  She used to sell them on HSN.  She is great.

Please let us know how you are doing.  Like the other person said, go to Drs and check it all out.  I'm 70 this year so I am tired of fighting it.  I don't like the wig but it works well.

Toni Brattin annoys the heck out of me.

But, her wigs sure look nice to me.

Go ahead and use the I-Grow.  You just put it on your head (looks silly), push the on button, and pick the one of two settings for women.  You can watch tv, eat, read, whatever.  It is only every other day, and he says he has gotten some small hairs.

If you have always had fine thin hair then I think it's your DNA and there isn't a whole lot you can do to improve it. If your hair was fuller and thicker when you were young then I think it would help to ease your mind if you saw a doctor. My hair was always fine, but like my hairdresser says, I have alot of it. As I age though, my hair is finer and I don't have as much of it. I take a supplement called Skin Hair and Nails, it's an Andrew Lessman product from HSN. It works for me in that my hair does not fall out like it used to. I know it works because I stopped taking it and my hair started to fall out more than usual and get thinner especially in front. I hope you can find an answer.

You might want to consult a Dermatologist who should be able to identify the reason(s) for your hair loss.  Good luck.  I hope the cause is reversible.

Good for you for taking on this problem that's been making you unhappy.  I have a very mild case of alopecia areata, but in the summer of 2010 I suddenly broke out with a bunch of bald spots all over my head, including a big one right on the top.  Needless to say, I was extremely distressed!  I bought a wig, but I never did wear it but instead wore a hat or tried to cover it.  I decided that if it didn't grow back I would just wear a wig.  It grew back by fall, but if it didn't I would have had to adjust.  I regret being so upset that summer that I didn't enjoy a day.  Explore your options and take steps to find an alternative that makes you happy.  There's nothing wrong with a hairpiece or extensions.

Beware of all the potions they sell at high prices that promise to grow your hair.  Most of them don't work.  Your primary care doctor could give you basic advice on what might work.

Good luck!  You will feel so much better when you have found a solution that makes you happy.

I have fine hair, but fortunately a lot of it.  I invested in human hair fillers that match my hair perfectly. I got the idea from Joan Rivers who used to pull hers out periodically as a joke.  Best investment I ever made.  I wear my hair as a long bob, basically bottom of my neck. My fillers make me look like I have a beautiful head of hair. I had them made professionally by a fabulous wig maker who used western European human hair. I am sure there are cheaper variations around. My fillers are fabulous and once you get the hang of it, your hair looks lovely and full.

I am 61 and my hair has thinned. You said you were past tonics and potions so I'm hesitant to recommend this but since I accidentally discovered it myself I hope it's okay if I share. I ordered a kit from Consult Beaute and in that kit was their liquid supplement. I did not order the products because of the supplements and never expected to see results from them
But with that said the primary change/benefit I have noticed since I started using it is that my hair has gotten thicker and on the top of my head where it had thinned the most my hair has really filled in. Overall my hair has thickened/grown in and looks healthier. I re-ordered the liquid supplement and for now I plan to continue using it primarily because of the change I have seen in my hair.
I hope you find what works for you. Don't let it get you down - maybe the solution for you is a pretty new doo in the form of a cute wig. HTH!
