"VACATION" TOILETRIES TRICK

[ Edited ]

I was complaining to a girlfriend about how much makeup, skincare, brushes, pencils, etc. I have at my vamity. Here's how she pared down to necessities and it helped:

She said she "packed" for a make believe week's vacation in a small travel cosmetics bag. She put in only what she'd use/need for that week. Then she put it out on her sink and only used what she packed to see what her necessities really were. She added one or two items, but essentially realized how much extra was cramming her drawers and cabinet.

I tried it and it works!! I travel with a hanging toiletries bag...sections w/ skincare and makeup that rolls up. I hung it up and only used the contents....So enlightening to see how much junk I had and not using.

This did it for me from amazon.

I threw away the big Tupperware container with shadows that were years old!  I was only using a few items off of the top.

I have a FILE CABINET FULL of makeup......but on top is a sturdy 5" x 7" box with what "I really use".     Hardly ever dig down in the "stash" unless I run out of something...

@ECBG I have something very similar that I got from QVC.  I purchased it a while ago for a good price.  I like the organization it provides.Makeup storage

Back in 1997 I bought on the Q, The Freedom Bag, I still use it to this day if I go away for 2 weeks or even just a weekend, best purchase I ever got from the Q.

@Shelbelle  - I have the Freedom Bag too.  Took it with me for a 3+ week trip to Africa and it worked great.  Use it whenever I travel.

@Shelbelle   lol I bought that bag too!  But it was a gift 😟. Sadly, I'll bet I'll never be able to find one again.  *The recipient still loves & uses it though lol

@Shanus Hi!

This thread motivated me to clean out my stash.  I threw out a bunch of old make up and cleaned out the space.  I probably could pitch more. Baby steps.  LOL

@Shanus I also have too much and it's really not a problem except when I do want to travel!  Honestly, I can easily fill up a carry on bag just with hair items and makeup!

Next time I'm planning on a trip I'll try to pare it down to a much more managable size (maybe just a small makeup pouch) and try it out days before I go.

My other problem is hair.  I can't stand the dryers in many hotels so I will bring my own (it is small & lightweight) along with a flat iron, plus I like my own shampoo, conditioner & hair spray.

I tried a few years ago to not bring shampoo and used what the hotels had.  UGH!  I felt like I was washing my hair with detergent.  Will have to look into travel sized bottles.
