question about manis.......

OK, you wonderful beauties, I'm coming to you for a huge question. Two weeks ago I was in another state and had a mani/pedi.....ohmmm! I had them do a shellac polish on my fingers and I LOVE it!! My question is, is this the same result as a gel or lacquer? Thanks in advance.
