My cuticles are a mess, and I do try care for them...I have used lots of different products but nothing works long term.  I am going to do a manicure this weekend, what concoction do I use to to soak my nails, thanks?

Dish liquid and warm water.

@Mom2Dogs I  have heard that soaking one's nails in olive oil helps. I certainly wouldn't use any kind of soap or detergent as this would further dry out your cuticles.

I have been using the Skin Fix hand cream for over a year. I rub it into my nails and cuticles and it’s changed dramatically. I use Deborah Lippmann cuticle remover after soaking and pushing back the cuticles. I know they say not to cut them but I do!!!

Avoid soap when you soak....I use a baby shampoo/body wash that is soap free,,,,

When getting a manicure,,,do not let technician use alcohol to clean your nails before polishing,,,,ask her to use water,,,avoid alcohol in any hand products. Terribly drying, Yes, i rub a dab of olive oil on my cuticles,,,,it's great!

Buy a product made to soften and remove cuticles.  Sally Hanson instant remover works great.  You apply it and wait a while then gently push back the cuticles with a soft orange wood  stick.  Be careful not to damage the cuticle.

Never, never cut your cuticles.  It is okay to cut a hang nail, but never the cuticles.  Apply a cuticle cream often to keep your cuticles in good condition.  Some people push their cuticles back after a shower when they are soft and pliable.

Cuticles protect the nail bed and keep bacteria out.  I have seen some pretty bad infections due to dirty implements being used or from damaged or cut cuticles.

@Mom2Dogs

A few drops of oil, olive, coconut, in a small dish of warm water.

Keep raising your fingers up through the oil, which will float.

Please don’t cut!  Gently push back after soaking.

Thanks all!   I do use a cuticle cream and the Sally Hansens product...but nails and cuticles rarely look nice.  I even use argon oil or vaseline at night on my hands...nothing really works well...I must be a tough old bird.
