I am trying out Mad Hippie products and, sure, they feel good going on and they do not seem to upset my face in any way. Good effects, however, require consistent use over time. How long do you believe it takes to determine whether or not a skincare product is having a positive effect on your skin?

If it doesn't have an adverse effect I use up the whole product and then decide if it's worth continuing.

Are you talking about serums in general? (not including retinoids or skin lightening products) I would give those at least 2 to 4 weeks depending on the type of serum. But past 30 days with no visible results means it's a bust. Why continue spending money on something you can't see working??
ETA - The science behind '30 days' is skin-cell turnover normally takes 28 days so if by then nothing has changed then your serum didn't work.

I like to try new things, I give it to the bottom of the container, if no real results, i never rebuy it. That is why I shy away from anything super sized.
I also tried Mad Hippie C in the mornings and A at night. Very nice but no visible resilts so I moved on. Their eye cream has an incredibly good ingredient deck but it irritated my under eye skin. I did use their Face Cream over the A at night.

@SilleeMee I agree. The general "rule" is 4-6 wks., but everyone's skin is different and some products don't show signs of being effective for 6 months or more like Vit. C or Retin A. You can usually tell within that 6 wks. if a moisturizer or eye cream is providing the hydration your skin needs. Some "actives" need longer.

Wow, that's a great question and, I feel, isn't the same answer for everyone/every product. I seem to have quick results with the more high end products that I've used. For instance, the Day and Night Tatcha creams have worked miracles in the first week. The Ordinary Squalane Oil has worked wonders in the first week. All these things were addressing my crazy dry and sensitive skin. I'm also using The Ordinary Rosehip and Buffet and HA+B5 serums. Those are still a work in progress. I was using HA already in the form of Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel and was using OofO Night Cream. Not really cutting it. I put on my makeup yesterday and my face literally looked flawless...airbrushed. However, I did use a different primer yesterday. And that reminds me, I wanted to start a topic about Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer...WOWZA!
At the same time I bought the Tatcha moisturizers, I bought their Rice Wash and Rice Powder (exfoliating powder). I use the wash after the Squalane Cleanser. The "Classic" Rice Powder was a BIG no-no! My face itched and burned like crazy. I've since returned it and bought the Gentle formula but haven't received it yet.

I agree about the cell turnover, which actually occurs on a daily basis, a full turnover on a cycle of about 28 days. But in some things, one can tell almost immediately....
Is your skin hydrated? comfortable? supple? smooth? clear?
Over time you'll see and feel less skin roughness, softer lines, more even tone.

Depends on what I am trying to fix. If it's something major like deep wrinkles which took years to develop, I give a product 3 months! I once had a PTR serum that took over 2 months before I started noticing a difference and boy am I glad I stuck with it. By 5 months I had no more forehead or 11 lines and other areas were either greatly improved or somewhat improved. I was beyond disappointed when they discontinued it. Other types of products I give 4 to 6 weeks.
