I think I have found my new nail salon, earth shattering news--I know 🤨--I moved to a new town recently so been hunting for new hair, nail place. Been to 3 already--the first was a dive---service---meh and price--cheap--😣--you get what you pay for.

2nd one was ok --more $$ and my nails --gels--actually started shattering last week! That was weird. Was not kung fu fighting or karata chopping boards--they came off to expose the 3 layers on my nail--my real nails, the gel layer and then the polish layer---so found another place very close to where DD works and what a nice shop. Very clean and light and organized. The woman who did my nails was  young and very nice and after finding out I was a cancer survivor, she had/was going thru the same--she suggested that I NOT do the type of gel nails I had been, that it was  very bad on the nails and not so great as far as being more toxic. Not sure what it was called but is a more gentle procedure with less harmful chemicals and really--I didn't notice that harsh awful oder of the gel nail stuff. No gel powder involved just a liquid type of gel. Actually used my real nails instead of the build up of the gel. Have to say--my nails look great. And she cut them short so my never ending unpacking of moving boxes won't smash them to smithereens. Never had great nails--ever--and after chemo--they would not grow without peeling, splitting and crumbling. Going back in 3 weeks. Paid $60 + tip. but the next appt, should be less. Got my fave natural pink polish called bubble bath--looks pretty good!!

That is great! Having one thing that is 'normal' when we make a life adjustment does a heart good and makes me smile. Good job! I've been looking for a pedicure for a ong while, been fitting it in whenever and wherever I can . . . my mani-pedi gal does great nails but not so great with pedicures.

@wagirl  Glad you finally found a new nail salon.  I found a new hair stylist this week.  Absolutely thrilled with the cut and service.  Also $20 less expensive than my former stylist.

I did not know where to go after I left my other stylist and hadn't had my hair cut for about a year.  Plus I'm also losing it due to my estrogent suppression drug.

@wagirl

It may not be earth shattering but it is hard to find "the one" hairdresser, nail tech, esthetician, etc. when moving.  When I left Texas I had the best of all three!  When I arrived in Hawaii, I went through more hairdressers & nail techs than I can remember.  I found "the one" esthetician fairly early on after moving, but for hairdresser and nail techs, that took MUCH longer.  I can confidently say I have the best of all three.

Several years ago I went to a nail salon for the first time in my life.  I went several times and noticed specifically what they used and I realized I should try it myself.  I bought the products at Sally Beauty.  There was a learning curve; it seems I've mastered it!  Smiley HappyWoman Wink

@wagirl  Are they "dip nails"? I was reading about them lately. They put an adhesive on nails and then dip in a powder that hardens. My friend gets those since they are less toxic.

@Shanus -No there was no dipping/powder at all--the kind I was getting before, was the kind where a brush was dipped into a liquid then into powder and then went onto my nails and brushed into shape. But have had the dip type once. This time, it was just a thick liquid brushed on --had several coats that were hardened under a light. and my own real nails that were pretty long but very thin--were what gave me length--that surprised me!! My real nails are garbage usually. she then cut them all down at the tip of my finger too--I'm still moving/dealing with boxes from my move so not very gentle with them yet.
