eyeshadow problem, can someone help?

I bought a matte eyeshadow in a bone/ivory shade, I applied it from the crease to the browbone and 1 hour later it had turned to a pale orange shade.

I know that foundations can oxidize when they mix with skin oils but I applied to clean skin with no primer and no moisturizer.

This has never happened to me before and Ive been wearing shadows for 35 years. Any ideas what happened? thanks
