QUESTION for all posters: why do most of you like Dark polish on only short nails? What does age have to do with wearing dark vs. light/medium? My nails look most flattering for my hand & fingers when they are medium long & oval shaped. I've tried cutting them shorter but since I have a wide nail bed they look ""stumpy"". Now ---- I also love ALL colors & shades of polish except White. So I have 3 of those popular dark shades and wear my nails medium long & shapely and am over 60. My question is what would you think (of me & lifestyle) if you saw me with longer dark nails? I dress well & am dark blonde with minimal makeup. It sounds to me from the comments on this thread that there are unwritten ""rules"" for nail length & polish color. I'd really like to hear your honest opinions and reasons for preferences (especially the lady who referred to her being ""too old"" to wear dark colors). My 90 yr old mother has similar opinions but she's a whole other generation with SO many rules for how females should dress & wear their hair & makeup etc -- you get my point! Thanks for your comments and answers. PLEASE be honest and candid --- I won't take offense nor argue with you. I'm honestly interested in your thoughts!!

I have so many that I like - lately I really want to get Storm by Zoya. Its a black polish with flecks of holo glitter.

Dark blue and black cherry are probably my favorites as far as dark colors go. But I have lots of other darks I like.

Just for me personally my nails look best short for darker polish and longer for lighter. They are longer now and I am wearing pink. But I want to wear dark soon so I'll need to trim Them. I love the look of the nails in the shot with the Milani polish. I think it's just a personal preference, if you can wear them darker and longer you should. I remember when Holly Mordini would do the Smashbox presentations and would wear short nails & dark polish & every time there was a thread where we would all rave about how beautiful her nails looked and what color they were.

Yes I will keep wearing what I want & like --- that's one advantage of growing older! One ceases to care so much what others think about their looks & lifestyles (except the 'biddies' who just love to henpeck and cluck over everything!!). There is something appealing about short dark nails but I can't pull it off somehow.

The darkest I go is Really Red by Essie, but I want to step out of the box when it gets closer to fall and try a dark charcoal grey or black. I love the colors posted here!
