With what makeup items do you really notice the difference between high-end and drugstore?

The only things really are low-cost lipsticks from brands like LA colors and Jordana and high-end lipsticks. But I also notice the difference between those really cheap lipsticks and more expensive drugstore lines too. But when it comes to Mascara and blush, I really cannot tell. I don't wear eyeshadow, eyeliner, and foundation. Can you tell the difference between those items? I do have to say that I REALLY appreciate that department stores have testers! Not being able to test certain products at the drugstore has made me waste money on items that I end up disliking and hardly ever using.
