Re: Why do all neck creams ball up on me after about 3-4 hours?

[ Edited ]

It sounds like too much product for the skin to absorb.

@DowntonAbbey - How do you know you don't need to exfoliate your neck?  Dead skin builds up there too.  Depending on your particular skin needs, you may or may not be able to use the same kind of exfoliation treatment on your neck as you do on your face (if you even do that), but exfoliation does help your treatment products absorb better.  A salux cloth in the shower is very easy to use for body exfoliation from the neck down.

Re: Why do all neck creams ball up on me after about 3-4 hours?

I think it is the product/s you are using. Some things do not seem to be compatible.

Sometimes I use up to 6 things on my neck. Nothing ever has balled up. I use all my treatment things on my neck, and in the a.m. a moisturizer, and then on top of that, extra support just for the neck area: which is Gold Bond, an oil and/or Hylauronic acid serum.

But what JLF suggested should not be dismissed, either. If your neck skin is not exfoliated, some of the ball up can be from the dead skin.

But I tend to think it is from the product.

Because certain sunscreens (like CeraVe) have balled up for me. Search for one that doesn't. Devita ss is one that does not.

Re: Why do all neck creams ball up on me after about 3-4 hours?

@DowntonAbbey  I've never had that happen on my neck, but I have had it happen on my face when it needs more exfoliation.  Sometimes after applying a light amount of oily moisturizer like Josie M. Argan Oil, I will touch my face after a little while, and balls of dead skin are just rolling off of it in my hand.  At first I thought it was something I had put on my face, but when I looked at the "balls" they were dark colored.......so it was actually my skin.  I now use a gentle physical exfoliator mixed with my facial wash every night.  Apparently, I need a lot more exfoliation than I thought.  That could be what's happening with your neck.

Downton Abbey,

In the time since you posted that message and now, your body has lost about half a million skin cells. Some of those are on your throat, or neck. They need to be exfoliated, just as the dead cells on your face and body do, to make your skin look its best and optimize the products you use.

A rough cloth may do the trick, as someone suggested, but if your skin tolerates the AHA or BHA exfoliants, you might try them. I always do the Paula's Choice BHA stuff over my throat as well as face, and not only do I not have problems, it's gotten rid of the little skin tags that were on my neck.

Apart from that, I'd think the product just isn't compatible with your skin, or it's reacting to the serum you're applying. I'd try applying it to freshly washed and exfoliated skin, with no other products, and see whether it still balls up.

It's possible the creams don't play well with the serum. Try them without the serum and see if that makes any difference.

I find that the more products I use, the more likely I am to encounter issues like this. Some do it on their own, but most pilling I get seems to be from product interactions.

Wouldn't the fact that she uses Perricone provide exfoliation? I think her issues are with the formula of the neck cream. I've had similar problems with some products..

Did I miss something??? I see no mention of her using Perricone.

I didn't think I needed to exfolliate my neck either, never crossed my mind.... but once I did it,wow, I noticed a huge difference in how my products worked...

Re: Why do all neck creams ball up on me after about 3-4 hours?

@DowntonAbbey

It was happening to me too and driving me crazy.

EVERYTHING @JeanLouiseFinch said was spot on.

I DID need to exfoliate more.

I was using too much.

The product(s) was/were too heavy and not absorbing completely.

I now ONLY use Perricone Sub D or Strivectin Tightening Neck Serum (A279598) in the ROLLER TUBE and never have the problem any more at all.

I use my Clarisonic on my neck/deco area about twice a week to remove dead skin cells.

Most neck creams in tubs are too thick and heavy for me and I have tried them ALL.

BUT the Strivectin Tightening Neck Serum in the Roller Tube is fantastic.  Glides on (without me using my fingers!!) and absorbs completely. It is a white, creamy light serum.  NOT a thick clear serum.  Dr. Perr Sub D  works perfect for my neck area also.

I am fanatical about 'creaming' my neck both at night and in the morning.  I can't afford to have 'balls of cream' during my workday!  LOL
