Why do Fragrances cost so much?

I wore body lotions for over 8 years strictly. Before that, I did wear perfume. Recently, I purchased some fragrances but boy have the prices gone up. I ended picking up some purse sizes and one that was half of the normal bottle that was $98.00. Hello? $98 for Eau de Parfum? 20 years ago, you could buy the big bottle for $50.00.
