Re: Why do Beauty companies put SPF in Foundation?

I will add my agreement to those who acknowledge that SPF in color products (makeup) is a marketing ploy.  The best SPF is a product that was developed to be SPF.  Many years ago when SPF initially became a buzzword ingredient to include in foundation and tinted moisturizers, professional skincare people I know and my dermatologist said it was hogwash because there wouldn't be a sufficient amount of the ingredient in the color product for it to be the best option to protect your skin.  I have always used a separate SPF skincare product. However, if using a foundation with SPF is the only product you use that has SPF in it, that's better than nothing.

I guess the spf in my makeup is good enough for me since I avoid the sun at all costs.  I dislike the sun and get my Vit D in 30,000iu/day in pill form.

I'm glad it's in foundation at least for me.  The IT cc crème works great on me. My skin is so sensitive, I have niot found one for my face that does not irritate my face. I have no problem on the rest of my body but I can't put it on my face.

 @happilyretiredgirl  I agree. I also use the IT cc cream. I justify the price because I don't need to buy a separate  spf product.

Re: Why do Beauty companies put SPF in Foundation?

That's why my favorite is MAC studio fix powder foundation. It does not contain SPF as many people are allergic to certain types.

You can decide for yourself what sunscreen you would like to use yourself if any.  Your decision, your skin and allergies. I don't like when they shove their own little recipe for "all".  Not.

It's great for the humid southern states and lasts all day, no grease as well.  I wish I discovered this sooner.  I use it with a MAC buff brush and the powder sponge around the nose and to spot check a pimple, etc.

If I've heard it once I've heard it a hundred times, don't rely on the SPF that is in your foundation for sun protection.  Just heard Nikki La Rose say it again.  So why do companies go to the expense of including it in foundation?

@monicakm

Simple ... when it comes to skin cancer, I would think that every little bit of sunscreen protection you can get, from any source, helps.

The other possibility ..... if one company has sunscreen in their makeup and another company doesn't, trust me, the company with it will use it as a selling tool and mention that the other company is not as good.

i might be wrong, but I don't believe that sunscreen is the most expensive ingredient in the makeup.

I don't rely on one source ... iMO, every little bit helps.

I bet that's the answer especially since it's "common knowledge" to those in the know, that the sunscreen in foundation doesn't do any good.  I'm glad I don't have any desire to be in the sun AND feel that the sunscreen industry has taken this whole sun/skin cancer thing and ran with it.  I'm not saying the sun doesn't cause skin cancer, I'm saying as with most anything, it's been blown out of proportion.
