I'm talking about TV, we get showered with Revlon and Maybelline ads constantly. The models are all teens, the looks shown are extreme. Like a white line in the lid fold. Have they given up trying to appeal to anyone above 18? Or do they think we will attempt to look younger?

@depglass both...I think that teens and 20 somethings are a targeted llarge audience t purchases make-up (especially drugstore). But their perception might also be that the more mature woman might want to appear younger, so marketing thinks it is killing two birds with one stone.
Not saying this is accurate, but advertising does lots of research as to how it presents itself. (Have you seen the weird ads for Cadillac lately...what is the audience, just bizarre)

If many older women are like me, they don't buy much if any makeup now unless it is a hobby, and the buying and trying is an activity.
I don't need or want new makeup now. I look like a clown with much on, and all in all have always preferred the natural look. I think older women put their dollars into skin care and cosmetic procedures than makeup. It seems to be more bang for the buck.

Probably because most of the new makeup trends are mostly only of interest to the younger crowd and that sells more product. I've seen so many posts here saying they only wear taupes now and don't wear eyeliner, etc. becasue they're over a certain age. If that's the case, why would they advertise much to the older sect?
I enjoy playing a little with my eye makeup when I do wear it, although not the extreme looks.

That's how they establish their customer base. Start with the young and then hope they continue buying as they get older. It's a good sales strategy.

Teens need some guidance and advertising gives it. Drugstore brands are in their budget too.
Once they are hooked, they have fond memories and keep buying.

As always, follow the money.

Application of face products to look better has become simpler for me.
It's mostly about concealers and four other products- baked powder foundation, blush, eyebrow color and mascara. Ads that target teens or that encourage color play with makeup, are wasted on me. But there's a big target audience obviously

I haven't watched tv since 9-11 except for football. I know you're talking about tv but the same is going on with ads on the Internet. It's crazy! With these crazy looks I've never seen anyone wear to all the "kiddie" makeup geared to pre-teens. Do teenage girls spend more money on makeup than 30, 40, 50, 60 year olds?
