I like Tarte better because (1) Mally's tends to dry up pretty quick; and (2) Tarte has a longer, slimmer wand. I get pretty much the same effect from both.

I like the Tarte Lights Camera Lashes in the purple vinyl tube better than Mally's, but I saw the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara demo on HSN and I'm a little tempted to try it.

I am very fickle when it comes to mascara, but out of the two you mentioned, I prefer Tarte.

I'm wearing this one right now. I usually need to wear waterproof or tubing mascaras because I have allergies (watery eyes sometimes) and live in a humid climate. Most non-waterproof mascaras give me raccoon eyes or flake off. The Roller Lash hasn't been clumpy and hasn't given me smudges or flakes. Unfortunately, it also doesn't curl my lashes on its own and needs help. I either curl before applying or I apply, then use the stem of a cotton bud to press my lashes up from the base and hold for a few seconds That trick actually gives me really good lift that lasts and, for me, is easier than messing with a lash curler.

I like Tarte better, but you didn't specify WHICH Mally or Tarte mascara and they both make more than one. I like the Tarte Gifted mascara with Amazonian clay more than Lights, Camera, Lashes.

Neither is my favorite mascara by any means but out of the two you mentioned, I like Mally's. Tarte's made my eyes irritated. I like Mally's mascara in the greenish/blue tube better than her volumizing one (the white tube) but both are pretty good.

I'd pick Tarte (prefer the Amazonian clay version more than Lights, Camera, Lashes) over Mally, but I like the Benefit Roller Lash better than both of them. I really like it. I like that the brush isn't huge (what is up with all the huge brushes lately in so many mascaras, they don't seem to help with volume like they say they will). The formula is really nice, not too wet and not too dry. You also don't get a lot of extra product on the brush that you have to wipe off before using it. It doesn't smudge at all, even on my lower lashes.
I bought it almost 2 months ago when it was introduced on HSN and it still goes on as nicely as it did in the beginning. The packaging is also cute...not that packaging matters much for mascara, but it's way nicer than the clunky purple vinyl on Tarte and the plain white or green tube of Mally.

Both Tarte and Mally give you those doll looking fringed lashes. I'll add there's nothing wrong with that and I think both are nice mascaras. Between Tarte's Lights Camera Lashes and Mally's Volumizing I would opt for Tarte's because it seems to be kinder to the lashes. Mally's wears better though and never flakes (even if you fall asleep with it on)
That said neither is my go to. I prefer a subtler mascara look and generally wear Lancome's Definicils. FYI: Laura Geller's GlamLash mascara is very good also. It's gentle on the lashes and two coats can leave my lashes looking very long and full. I also use Laura's black primer under under other mascaras and alone. That primer is so good it can make a not so nice mascara (such as Wet & Wild's) look, wear and feel better.
