When using a flat iron?...........

Do you slightly squeeze the two plates together while running it through your hair? This is going to sound silly, but I never used to, but I was always wondering how my hair dresser got my hair so silky smooth when she used a flat iron, and I couldn't get the same results.

One day I tried squeezing the plates together just a little bit tighter (not enough to pull my hair at all), and I really did get better results.

Do any of you flat iron useers have any tips or tricks to getting really silky smooth hair? Thanks!
