I was diagnosed with Rosacea a number of years ago, which is also referred to as "adult acne". All my growing up years and through adulthood I never had the first problem with my skin until about 10 years ago. I used Pond's cold cream some when I was younger, but usually just washed with mild soap and water most of my life and used an inexpensive moisturizer. My Mom had great skin and passed it on to me.
I started noticing that my face got extremely red and hot when working out in my yard, especially in the sun. It did the same thing if I got very excited, or angry, etc. I was not having any breakouts at the time. The thing that sent me to the doctor was my eyes - they would burn, sting, and water sometimes to the point that I could hardly open or close them. Since I was having the redness, I went to the dermatologist who said she was 99% sure it was Rosacea but wanted to send me to the eye doctor. There is a test they can do because the eye problem can be a symptom of Rosacea, and he confirmed it. A lot of people aren't aware of this if the eye problem is not as severe as what I experienced.
My dermatologist put me on an antibiotic for one month, then Finacea one or twice daily. I used only Neutrogena, Olay, or Cetaphil foams/washes for sensitive skin for cleansing, and Olay or Neutrogena moisturizer for sensitive skin. For my eyes, I first used a gel and now I use only artificial tears once or twice daily. I don't use expensive makeup - I can use L'Oreal mousse type makeup, and I do like Bare Minerals original. I've found that I like Philosophy's Purity, but "Hope in a Jar" irritates my face, so I went back to the Neutrogena moisturizer. I've always had great skin, thanks to my Mom's genes, and everyone says I look a lot younger because I have few wrinkles on my face at 70. I seldom have any kind of breakouts now, even though I don't use the Finacea on a regular basis. DO use sunscreen on your face!
I will say to anyone who suspects they have Rosacea, they do need to get a proper diagnosis. If left untreated, in some people it can wreak havoc on your face over time, including getting bumps on and around your nose which can make your nose appear "bulbous". This is rare but it does happen. Clogged pores can also become a real problem. I met a woman several years ago who was younger than me, and I knew immediately that she must have untreated Rosacea, but I couldn't bring myself to say anything because I didn't know her well.
Just make sure you get it properly diagnosed as soon as you suspect it, and hopefully you will never have any really bad problems with it.
