When Getting Highlights and Lowlights at the Salon.......

Does the hairdresser always have you sit under the hair dryer for a bit of heat maybe 20 minutes?

Or do you just sit there and wait in a chair for it to process with no hair dryer?

(That's for use with foil.)

TIA

It depends on the stylist and the products they use.  I have done both and still had great results.

If my dog doesn't like you, neither do I.

I can't remember.  It seems like I've done both.  I have an appointment to have highlights done the middle of next month.  I will have to pay attention to this.

If she's pushed for time, she has me sit under the dryer.  If not, I sit in a chair.  So I think the dryer just speeds things up.

Has anyone here highlighted or lowlighted their gray hair?  My natural hair is more of a very light blondish-silver and the hairdresser thinks I should have some brown lowlights.  It's baby fine and I know color will help the crown look thicker.  Thank you.

My hair is about 50% gray.  My natural haircolor is very dark brown.  I get highlights and lowlights.  The problem I have is that after about 2 shampoos my hair looks horrible.  It's like the color washes away.

She doesn't have me sit under the dryer.  That's why I asked the question.

@Sunshine Kate ..............I could be wrong about this but I dont think dryer time has anything to do with your color fading.  I think that is a product failure.  You should ask your stylist and tell her your coloring fade's and looks bad.  Another brand might solve that problem.

I have gray & white streaks to cover in my brown hair...no dryer & my color lasts for 4 months.

Re: When Getting Highlights and Lowlights at the Salon.......

I've been highlighting my hair for over 30 years and I don't recall ever being put under the dryer (and this is living in NJ, California and GA).  The last salon I went to didn't use a dryer but this "machine" that moved around the head.  I didn't know what it was or what it's used for and the hairdresser told me it's for hair color/high lights.  She said she doesn't use it because she's always able to get the color "on her own."  Well, one reason why I stopped going to her was I wasn't thrilled with the color.  Always way too light for me.
