Whats the best kind of artificial nails to get? Acrylic, Gel, solar..?? So confused!!!

Once a year I like to get fake nails, but all the choices are so confusing.

Can someone help sort this out for me? I'd like them strong and I plan on keeping them a shorter length than most women with fake nails seem to prefer.

I've only had acrylic nails....is there something new and improved out there??
