What's the deal with the new Rice-based CCs?

In the latest Wen blog post by Sandra Bennet, she mentions this new line (there is a link to all rice based CCs). Are they basically the original CCs (fig,lav,tt..etc) but rice based, instead of wheat? Thanks.

The only option so far is the Bamboo but the description box lists all main original CCs scents/flavors, - that's where I get confused - and they are on advanced sale.

I'm totally stoked about the new rice-based line! BGT is my favorite formula because it gives so much shine and body. Can't wait to try everything from the new rice line!

I believe from what I have learned from several ""in the know"" people that the Rice based will be new formulas/scents.

the descriptions on the 32 oz size here is wrong - the description on the 16 oz is what is the product. There is a ""mess-up"" by the Q- they must have copied the information description from the 32 oz core product codes.

well this sounds intriguing. I wonder if these new rice based ones will be menthol-free like WEN kids or still with menthol too (like BGT).

I'm confused too. Maybe BGT is first because it is already made, i.e. always rice based and they are making all the other formulas in Rice based soon? I don't know. Just hope they don't change all the formulas to Rice based. I love my BGT but I also like most of the wheat based too just as they are.

Thanks everybody! Guess I'm not the only one confused by this. Treeinwind, I thought the same, about bamboo being first and others to follow..? Maybe/Hopefully, we'll get some clarification about that on Chaz's next visit this weekend...

I don't know if it applies to hair products but Consumer Reports states that rice contains arsenic. They recommend that infants and children not eat rice or rice cereal, rice milk and rice pasta and that adults limit it. White rice contains less arsenic than brown.

They don't say for infants not to eat rice or rice products, but to limit infant rice cereal to one serving per day. The arsenic levels can be reduced by rinsing the raw rice and by cooking it with more water.

Since the rice in WEN isn't whole rice but the protein derived from it, I sincerely doubt there's any risk of any arsenic in it at all.

This sounds like a crock to me. If it were true, species Cajunus Louisianas would have died out decades ago. My dad has lived to be 83 years old on a diet consisting primarily of rice, shrimp and ice cream. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Re: What's the deal with the new Rice-based CCs?

Rice based. When the term base is used, this usually refers to the main ingredient(s) to which others are added. The hydrolized rice protein is just about at the bottom of the list of ingredients, so not much of in the formula. The base for all Wen CC is Behentrimonium Methosulfate. This is a chemical used in many conditioners and the ingredient that cleans and softens your hair. Nothing wrong with it, but the way Wen is marketed they lead people to believe the formula is all rice and other natural ingredients. I guess the hype about rice is for people who have celiac disease and can't ingest wheat proteins.
