I'm with @PansyBoo on this one. I used to wear perfumes in my younger days, but it just doesn't smell like it used to on me. I think the chemical changes our bodies experience makes this so. I still consider me young (68) but my body doesn't agree with perfume. I think this is true for a lot of folks. I always remember the older women at work when I was in my 30's and 40's wearing these high end perfumes thinking they smelled glorious and omg most of us steered away from them because they didn't smell like they thought they did 🤢. Especially the patchouli, vanillas, ambers, cedar, absolute jasmine...so heavy.

Giorgio, the quintessential eighties perfume. Makes me think of Joan Collins and other celebs from that big hair, big shoulders, big perfume time

Great topic.

I have become very sensitive to scents now. I think of all the perfumes I loved when I was younger.

My last favorite was Angel by Terry Mugler. Talk about wanting to take a bath in it. I haven't had it in years and curious if the scent has changed. And every male, who wasn't on my "team" so to speak, would alway stop me to let me know they loved my scent.

Lancome's Tresor can put me in a hospital. I remember one customer who must have gone thru a bottle a week - my eyes would tear, my nose would run in minutes. I would be wiped the rest of the day.

When I would walk thru Bloomies, Macy's or any other cosmetic department, I'd have my hands up, telling the sprayers that I had very bad allergies (not lying).

Everytime someone comes near me with their strong scent, I am so tempted to ask "what are you wearing?". So I know what I'm dealing with!

I now lightly wear Pure Grace or Living Grace.

As you can see by the replies many people have a bad reaction to different scents. My husband is one of them and I am sensitive about how much scent I wear and when,but I really enjoy wearing different scents. So for some of you who can't understand why anyone would wear perfume I will try to explain. Soap and water clean is always good but I find certain perfumes energizing others relaxing. Some remind me of something pleasant in my past and others just smell beautiful to me. I like the idea of a subtle signature scent though I don't have one and nothing is worse then a stinky one. So scent is a treat for myself that I try not to inflict on others.

I got news for you...The boys are still using that Axe! And they spray it all through the hallways as they leave Phys. Ed class 👃 Doesn't it smell like Roach 🪳 Spray? 😝

Once upon a time when I was a Buyer & Product Developer, I was tasked with developing an in-house fragrance & its unique bottle (to give it a perceived high value). Our VP wanted a fragrance that mimicked one she wore daily. I dealt with a fragrance developing company & 3 women reps who worked there. - So that made 4 women (yikes) + chemists working on a fragrance.

The bottle I designed was in the shape of a gown, & the cap was a frosted glass (sim to Lalique) hat with 2 flowers & a small 18k gold-plated bow that was a bail. The cap could be used as a pendant when the bottle was empty. There could be future generations of fragrances with different gowns & hat caps. I was concerned that copying another fragrance was an infringement & came up with one that was slightly milder & added a citrus note. I also thought the fragrance needed to be marketed to a broader set of consumers. It took months, & I secretly wanted to skip the 3 reps & work with the chemists directly to cut costs & too many opinions.

A new Executive VP was hired & fired the 1st VP. He said the fragrance should be for both women & men, so months of development & $ were thrown overboard. I had to start over. But he was fired within 3 months, and then another new VP was hired with new ideas. It was head-spinning.
