OK, so I wear a wig because I have thyroid problems. If I didn't wear the wig (nice shiny blonde hair) even with no wrinkles I wouldn't get the compliments.
I once read that if you want to look younger have dark brown eyebrows that are full. In school I always got complimented on my eyebrows (stupid I think), even in my yearbook. Now they get a little gray so I darken them.
I am having an operation to have my thyroid removed (cancer). My surgeon said, "Normally, I'd tell you I'm going to go in where the crease is in the neck but you only have one crease and that's from the scar that's already there (prior neck surgery). So I'm going to use where the old scar is located. It's amazing you don't have wrinkles in your neck. Makes it difficult to hide a scar."
Here's my theory. If people know someone who is close to 70 years old (or in their 60's) and have a lot of wrinkles, these people who compliment me are thinking of the wrinkled people in their life. That's their idea of age, be it young or old.
My lack of wrinkles is due to the fact that I exfoliate every single night and use Dr. Denese. But probably 65% of it is heredity.
Two of my daughters are 41 and 34 and they both look 20 years old (not one wrinkle). It's heredity. But then I've looked like this since I was young.
My Dad used to think it was funny to take myself (who was around 12) with my older sister who was 25 at the time, and say to people, "Who's the oldest"? They'd guess me because she looked like she was 15 and I looked 20 something. Now I still look the same. My sister died 12 years ago.
Something I do have that only plastic surgery could get rid of are 'jowls'. I can see where my face has fallen. If you take a careful look at me and look beyond lack of wrinkles, you'd see 'jowls' and where 'my face has fallen'. Then I don't look so young.
Again, there is no simple answer. Each person has his or her own idea of age. Next time you see someone with a lot of wrinkles (who aren't that old) see if their skin isn't like Dr. Denese and other dermatologists say, "The skin is more sallow looking. I think that's because they don't get the old skin off of their face every night.
Simple as that. Oh! It also helps if you've never been out in the sun much.
This country places way too much emphasis on youth. Too bad they don't place the same importance on intelligence. Everyone would win.
Another QVC poster with too much time on hand and of course no wrinkles and looks so young.

Annabelle, good luck with your thyroid surgery. I hope you recover quickly and I'll be thinking of you.
I believe you when you say that you have few wrinkles. Heredity and staying out of the sun definitely helps but skin care is also important.
Take care....

IMO this usually makes one look silly or simple.

To me it's chalk white teeth. Teeth normally yellow (some) as you age. Chalk white teeth shouts dentures, cheap dentures!

I say it is a combination....not SUPER WHITE....that looks unreal....but a natural attainable and believable... white. I got luminers on my front teeth...and the dentist did white level number 8 because he told me the MISTAKE many people make is....they get the teeth SUPER WHITE...and from across the ROOM the person's teeth look SO FAKE...

Nothing is more aging than chronic illness. Not the sun, not extreme make-up, not frumpy fashion choices, not an out-of-style hair-do...nothing trumps chronic illness. Living in pain packs on the years. I know.
