For foundation application, I use a damp sponge (Real Techniques). Using a damp sponge gives a more natural finish while blending well. It's also much faster for me than using a brush or fingers.
(I wash the sponge every morning with Dove soap and squeeze out the excess water in a towel prior to application).
What is your preferred method and why?

1) Fingers;
2) Only wear once every few months and not very good at it.

I use liquid foundation, and use my fingers.
I feel brushes absorb too much foundation, and plus they're a pain to clean.
I suffer from makup brush bacteria phobia, so prefer to use my clean fingers.

I use Clinique Powder fountation with a brush

I use my fingers.
I am contemplating trying something else (sponge, brush) because I'm having difficulty with balling. I don't know if that will reduce it or not, but I'm willing to try.
@San Antonio Gal Thanks for the sponge recommendation. I'm going to look into that one.

Sponge or brush--depends on the viscosity and "slip" of the foundation product. If I am in a terrible hurry--fingers!

I used to only use my fingers to apply my Clinique liquid foundation until I found some great foundation brushes. Wow! What a difference a correct brush makes! My makeup looks noticeably better!!

Lately I have found for myself that putting the foundation on a brush and then applying has seemed to work the best. Tried the other methods and just didn't work out well.
I bought the Belle foundation with the brush when she first presented it. She recommended putting it on the brush to apply. I did and then was surprised at how much better it looked. I have various foundations in stock, because I was always looking for something that looked better, and it works with them also.
Not sure what happened but the font size changed up on me.

Fingers. I use a tinted moisturizer after my primer. Applying with fingers works fine for me.
I tried using brushes & sponges and didn’t like either. I always felt like product was being wasted. I was also concerned about bacteria left behind on brushes & sponges even though I cleaned them.
