I was also one that loved Mally mascara.  The closest I have come to it is Honest 2 in 1 Mascara.  It has a primer on one end and mascara on the other.  The trick I have learned with it is to apply the primer and wait about 30 seconds to a minute....then apply the mascara itself. I find it volumizing and lengthening.  I have not experienced any flaking or smudging with it and I think it's easy to remove.  

 

It is available at Target and Ulta (online) for about $17, however I love it so much that I have it auto-delivered from Amazon every 3 months so it's slightly cheaper.  I also don't like buying it from Target because the boxes always seem to have been tampered with.  

 

I've read this whole thread and am thankful for all the recommendations!
