Reading the thread on the average age here, a few posters mentioned compliments. Since most of us enjoy skincare and make up and try to look our best for your age what is a compliment that comes to mind?
Last year I was picking up my prescription for blood pressure pills. I am 68. The female pharmacist asked me if I was picking these up for my daughter? I thanked her for making my day. I told her I was 67.
I remember the remarks behind my Mother's and Aunt's backs about them looking wrinkled and old and swore I would take care of my skin the best I could.

The most unbeliveable thing that happened to me was when a nurse asked me what birth control I used. I was 65 at the time. I laughed and said I didn't need any at this point in my life.. She scolded me and said I should be careful because I could get caught with a late life pregnancy. I thought she was joking.
She went out and came back and said - I just checked your chart and you are 65 - wow you don't look it.
I still wonder if she was joking - or if she had poor eyesight.
I don't have lines and wrinkles, but I definitely have chin and neck issues and when I went to my 50th high school reunion, there were several women who looked better than me. (I'm from Ohio - maybe Rhoda was right about the cold keeping you better. LOL.)

Isn't it nice that these compliments stick with you?
A couple years ago, my DD was having a celebration and had invited her high school best friend. I hadn't seen her in decades, and she hadn't seen me. She very sweetly said that I looked exactly the same, that I hadn't aged a bit!
An optometrist assistant asked me what I was using to look so young. Of course she knew my age and scrutinized my skin and eye area!
et. al.

Years ago, on her 65th birthday, I took my mom to her favorite restaurant. When the waitress took our order I mentioned to her that it was my mom's birthday and the waitress said to my mother: "You look too young to have such an old-looking daughter". We all laughed and I knew that made my mom feel really good.

Yup.....a person really remembers "those comments". About 10 years ago, a cashier at Albertson's said, "You should really do something to fix up your hair" They lost a customer......permanently.

I let my hair go gray several years ago, and while I've gotten a number of compliments from friends/family, the best one was from a total stranger who didn't know I heard it. I was standing in line to order at a restaurant, and walked past a booth with a couple sitting in it. I heard the man say "Now, SHE has beautiful gray hair!" emphasized just that way. Since I was the only gray-haired woman anywhere close by, I figured (hoped) he was talking about me, lol!
I'm very happy with my gray hair, but it's always nice to hear someone else say it's pretty.

A few months ago I saw a new PA at my dr's - she didn't do my annual wellness check because she didn't think I could be 65. I'm 68.
Then about a month ago I had my hubby in the ER - the admitting nurse asked if I was his daughter. I'm three years younger than him.
I was carded for alcohol purchases 'til about age 50.
I think it's more than just skin care though.

DD and I were going up in an elevator with 4 other women. I was about 55 then. They remarked on how much we looked alike and thought we were sisters. We both got a kick out of it.
Over the years it has been fun... but several times.... people teased DH about "robbing the cradle". It made me feel bad for him. He does look his age but I think he is even better looking now than when we met!
For me, I am convinced it's just hereditary. I had girlfriends ask me, "Is that your boyfriend" when Dad let me off at school. I inherited his genes and, I have to admit, he and I both thought it was fun while it lasted. Now, at almost 71, time is catching up with me. My grandson did tell me a couple of weeks ago that I only looked to be about 65. I thought it was sweet of him because I know he knows how old I am! I was feeling frumpy that day and I'm sure he detected it. He is one sweet kid!

There are 2 that I will never forget. One a few years ago when sitting next to my SO's daughter, in the middle of a conversation she stopped and said "you have amazing skin!". I was 60 at the time. The most recent when I fell and broke a few bones in my arm, the doctor sent the nurse in to ask if my birthdate was correct because he did not think I was 67 based on my looks and muscular body.
