What is Your Favorite Nail Base Coat?

I have good nails, like wearing them pretty short but I'd love to find a really good base coat or "protector" (not really a hardener) that would give them a little protection. I don't want anything drying. The PerfectFormula peels off of my nails hours after I apply it. Any one you really like?
