What am I doing wrong? Liquid foundations accentuate dryness.

I'm exfoliating, moisturizing and priming and still get flakeys. I currently use Tarte maracuja or Mally's new liquid foundation. Mally's shows flakes much worse than the tarte and I don't even have dry skin. It's almost like the liquid gets under anything dry and pushes it forward. I am normal with and oily t-zone. My primer is my Monistat.

I should add that I'm using .025 tretinoin cream 2-3 nights a week so that does add some dryness. I am 37 years old with fair skin but my skin is like iron, not sensitive at all.

I can wear powder foundation (LG Balance and Brighten, SB Halo, Lancome Dual Finish etc....) with no problem.

Anyone alse have this problem?
