Re: What Body Lotion Is Good For Older Skin?

@Katcat1   thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.  I think I will get the Josie's and one from the drug store.  Next time Isomers is on, I will try to scoop that product.   They will not go bad with all the people that can use them.

For the neck and down...I use organic virgin coconut oil.  Buy it in large jars for around $12.....and scoop smaller amounts into a little lock and lock container to keep in the bathroom.  I rub it all over when I am damp from the shower and then pat dry....sit in my robe for a little bit...and my skin is really hydrated and soft.  For my age it looks pretty darned good!!! And smells good, no chemicals....and inexpensive.

U brought back memories.  I used to use Coconut oil for many years when I swam daily.  Wow, have no idea why I stopped using it.    I would get mine at the All Natural Herb store for next to nothing price wise and my skin was fabulous in those days (of course I was younger and had never been sick).    Just a side note, not certain if it is healthy for dogs but I have a friend that shows dogs and she puts a slight amount of coconut oil liquid in her dogs food for their coats.   Might be interesting to read uses for coconut oil.  I used to use it on my hair also when swimming

Alpha is made with petroleum and mineral oil I prefer not to use these on my skin, just my personal preference. Paula's Choice makes AHA body lotions and BHA ones, with no mineral oil or petrochemicals.

It's a personal preference as most things are. Unless there is scientific evidence that the ingredients in Alpha are harmful then I don't see a problem with it. It's fear-mongering statements about ingredients in general that give certain products a bad name and many times those statements cannot be legitimately backed.

Not harmful or fearful of them, just very cheap, I prefer something with a little more integrity.  Just my personal feelings on the subject. I dont like paying good money on very cheap ingredients.

If you buy on ebay, do check Isomers there, different ones now listed for good prices. The ones with Matrixyl are good ones to try.

Have you tried the products from Ebay?  Just curious because years ago (many moons ago) a famous shampoo only available at Hair Studios was being sold and it was not the original formula.  The laws have probably changed thru the years and they only sell the "real deal"    Thanks again dear.

Oh, yes, all the time. I buy mostly all my high end beauty items on ebay, get great deals which afford me the luxury of trying new things. Check the seller for excellent feedback, and PayPal offers a money back guarantee on everything, so no worries.  Also look for items that come factory sealed, not all do, so I take my chances on them.

Thank you for your gracioius help.  Going to take a peek at Isomers and Argan Oil Body now to see if either comes in a large size on Easy pay.  I like to slather.  LOL

Have a friend that has baby soft skin/legs at 60.  All she uses is baby oil after a bath while wet.  ALAS did not work for me but I was probably too far gone.  Smiley Frustrated

Your remark about your friend made me think of something.  I have two slightly younger friends, both in their sixties, who have their share of lines and wrinkles on their faces, especially one who is very lined.  However, the skin on their hands, arms and legs is amazingly smooth, no crepiness, no age spots, etc.  Extremely young looking, whereas my arms and legs (we won't even talk about my hands) are spotty, and somewhat crepey.  My face is not bad at all for my age.

I even teased my one friend once, when we were both wearing shorts and I compared our legs, and I asked her if her legs had ever "seen the light of day".  I know she has been in the sun an average amount, though, and doesn't use sunscreen on her arms and legs, or goes to any trouble to cover up, so go figure.

It is to such a great extent genes and the luck of the draw.  Products help I suppose, but mostly it's genes.

This was a fun and interesting read.  I have a father 94 with skin like a baby rear end on every part of his body including his feet.   He worked hard all his life so who knows?  I certainly did not inherit his genes nor jeans as he dresses to impress every day and would not be caught in jeans.  ROFL.    BTW...I  grew up with Mom mixing baby oil and iodine for me to sun.  Paying for it now

@Shelbelle thanks for sharing regarding Ebay.  U probably saved many of us some dollars.

Also thank u for telling what has petroleum jelly in it.  If anyone is on oxygen, such as at my home, petroleum can cause them to catch fire if they use it on face or hands (or MD states that)

I have been a loyal customer of ebay for the last 14 years, only a few minor issues along the way. I buy clothing, household items, books, CD's, you name it!!!

I don't want to beat a dead horse here or be the police of ingredients but I have to mention that there is no petroleum or petroleum jelly in the Alpha lotion. It contains petrolatum which is a completely different compound.

ETA:  I stand corrected about the petrolatum. It is the same chemical compound as petroleum jelly, however, this is not the same chemical compound as petroleum. Please excuse my ignorance. @Shelbelle You are correct.Woman Happy
