Nothing works well on everyone!

@Tinkrbl44  Regarding Wen, 127 reports had been actually filed with the FDA.  However, more than 21,000 complaints about hair loss were lodged against Wen Hair Care.  Now add the thousands or potential hundreds of thousands of other people who lost their hair as a direct result from Wen, but these people never filed a formal complaint with either Wen or the FDA.

I didn't file.  My hair fell out almost immediately after using Wen.  What was left of my hair indeed felt luxurious, just as the sales pitch promises, but at the same time it gave me a big bald spot on the top of my head, and balding on the sides.  Used it for about 6 weeks before realizing it was definitely Wen.  I stopped using it.  Called Wen offices, but no call back response to my voicemail messages.  Emailed Wen, but no written response.  This was all in 2013.  Took about 9 to 10 months for my hair to grow back.  My case would not be counted in these posted numbers.  There are many more people who I'm sure were just too embarrased to write or file, or just stopped using it (me).

So we will never know the full extent of Wen's damage on some people, but it's far more than even the paltry number of 21,000 for sure.

@Jacie  My neighbor used THe Honest Company sunscreen on her daughter and Holy Moly... had to take her to the doc because of the welts. The child was screaming.....

They took pictures and included the report from the pediatrician and sent it to the CS department of the company. When Jessica Alba said people were lieing about it and it was fine, my friend got P1SSED! Took everything she owned by The Honest Company, boxed it up and sent it back with a scathing letter and said she would never use the products again. She then contacted all the moms in her mommy groups, co-workers with kids and told them what she did and many did the same thing!

When it was found that the product was NOT as "honest " as Alba claimed and people WERE getting burned an ingredient (as well as the spf protection was NOT what she claimed), the product was pulled. I have no idea if it was revamped as I won't support the company. So to those who stated otherwise, YES a  company CAN be made to pull a product when a few have a horrible reaction; especially if they claim it's so mild it can be used on young children.

I reacted to the menthol in WEN and lost my hair (50% of it) and NEVER heard from WEN despite sending documentation and photos certified mail. Still ticks me off when I think about it.

I strongly urge QVC to review the NY Times article and consider the implications of the potential issues discussed therein.  The issues raised should be taken seriously. QVC customers should have the opportunity to make informed decisions about this product.

The Honest Sunscreen was never pulled from where I lived. It still is on the shelves of my Costco and has ever since I heard about the issues with it. Can you provide me the link to a legitimate source where it states it was ever actually pulled? I had been following that story and watching it at my Costco and never saw it disappear and I did ask my friend that works there and she said they never received any notice to pull it. I had some of the sunscreen before the big stink came out about it and I compared the ingredients to the ones still in the store and they are the exact same. I do not think it was ever pulled although I did bring mine back because I am not fooling around with the possibility of sun damage and skin cancer and if there is even a remote possibility my skin may not truly be protected, I won't risk it.

See, easy peasy- I simply just don't use it.

ETA: I just found this article on Forbes:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidkroll/2015/08/03/the-failure-of-jessica-albas-honest-company-sunscr...

It is interesting, if you read it does NOT say it was pulled by the FDA and the company still insists it is safe and that it is USER ERROR as to why people are still getting burned. They did tweak the formula a little but ONLY because some people complained of a white cast and the smell of the product. So you are right, there are complaints but NO the FDA nor any other entitity forced them to pull the product and, in fact, found it was safe. Like the one statement from the company said, and which applies to WEN as well:

"The Honest Company is committed to providing safe and effective products, and we take all consumer feedback very seriously.

Our Sunscreen Lotion was tested, by an independent 3rd party, against the protocols prescribed by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) monograph for over-the-counter sunscreen products. The results showed that our product is effective and safe for use as an 80 minute water-resistant (FDA’s highest rating), SPF 30 sunscreen lotion in accordance with FDA regulations when used as directed (Shake Well. Apply liberally and evenly 15 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply after 80 minutes of swimming or sweating, immediately after towel drying and at least every 2 hours).

The number of complaints received on our own website about our Sunscreen Lotion constitute less than one half of one percent of all units actually sold at honest.com."

Some people are allergic, some are not.  I think that goes for many things.  I know I'm allergic to penicillin and other sulfa drugs - doesn't mean they should be off the market.

The problem with non-regulated products like WEN is that potential purchasers don't have a fighting chance to know if they might have a problem - although I had no idea I was going to be allergic to penicillin until I took it and it's certainly regulated.

Exactly @millieshops! But these common sense postings seem to go right over the heads of those, who want to blame WEN for everything. The fact that SOME will have a reaction to SOMETHING in any product, hair/skin care or food, seems to slip by WEN blamers. Besides, once again - those are only allegations against WEN, and not proven facts. Another fact passing right over certain heads.

Are you suggesting that QVC pull the product? I certainly hope not as I don't think it is fair to all of those customers who have had no issues with the product because of a small subset of customers who have had a reaction to it. Obviously if the FDA deems the product "unsafe" QVC will take action but there is no reason for them to take action simply due to an investigation of the product. Products get investigated all the time at the request of consumers- that is one of the FDAs jobs- but saying a product should be taken off the market before the investigation is concluded is like saying someone is guilty until proven innocent. Hopefully that is not what we want in this world?

But just like most things in this world- we always default to the lowest common denominator rather than people taking personal responsibilty.

I agree they need to do more testing on everything.  Everything we use goes into our bloodstream.

Really?  Why?  Why your sister did not stop dead in her tracks using ANYTHING, until she'd figured out WHY her hair falling out?

I feel sorry for your sister and people on those horrible pictures they showing. Sorry for their hair loss and for inability to discern their problem sooner.

Who knows exactly, what actually was a real cause of these atrocities on their heads?  Is it indeed WEN related? These are only the allegations at this point so far.

I disagree about the need to push more regulations onto companies, and make consumers and business to fall even more under government "care and control".

Besides, more regulating in the end, leads to hitting the consumers' pockets, in more ways than one.

What if instead, the consumers would rather wish for a half-brain instead? Maybe they could use it and see, if there is any problem, if something does not agree with them well, or if they having an allergic reaction, discomfort or hair loss. Maybe to stop way sooner?

How difficult is that? It takes only observing what's going on every day.  Where is one's personal responsibility for her own health and wellness?

Must be too difficult for some,  so much easier to make it somebody else's fault and let's have our nanny state regulate and punish here, and "I am only a victim".

Also, @BalletBabe, NO - everything we use does NOT go into our bloodstream - skin is actually a barrier protecting from that.

@sonechko... it never fails every time Wen is going to be on...

I am sure every beauty product on the Q an elsewhere have many folks with some issue..

Wen just got picked to be the "topic", of course any sensible person would stop using, but like you said everything is someone else's fault nowdays... like i said, Victoria Principal eye cream turned my eyes into a mess, gosh i stopped using .. imagine that!..

@SahmIam

Just curious .... what kind of documentation did you send them?   You seem totally convinced it was the menthol .... did a dermatologist verify this via patch tests .... allergy tests .....   or what?

Menthol is added to a lot of products we use and I'm surprised a bad reaction didn't happen sooner with some other product that you use ....  and you'd know not to use anything with menthol in it.

I am sure, @quadmimi you did not wait till your eyes would become even more "messed up", and STOPPED using Victoria Principal eye cream soon enough, realizing - this product is obviously NOT for you.
