All I can say is going to meetings keeps you accountable, although there are many people to have lost weight and kept it off doing the online thing.
I have learned the only "tool" you need is yourself. Unless you have committed to the purpose of "whatever" it won't work so commit to yourself and you'll have success!
Good Luck.

I've done both in-person WW meetings and the online version. It has been quite a few years since I've done them so perhaps it is different now. While I believe WW is a great program my personal feeling is the meetings you go to are more successful. At least for me. However, both programs worked for me so I think if the online version is more appealing to you go for that one. I think that when someone is ready to lose weight most any program will work so pick the one that fits your life style the best. Good luck to you!

My forty yr old DD lost 30 pounds on the WW online program! She looks great and has been able to keep the weight off! She found it easy to follow ...just counted points. I may try it this year....

I know for me attending meetings is a must. If I know I'm going to be weighed I'm much more careful. I know if left on my own the weight would creep up on me. I am a lifetime menber at goal and attend meetings every week.

I went to WW for a while and had minimal weight loss. I was quite discouraged. About a year and a half ago I thought that maybe I would try the online WW. My girlfriend tried it and lost 22 pounds. I was watching either the Today show or GMA and they had a program on online weight loss programs. One of them was FitDay dot com. It is absolutely free. They have a premium program but I have never joined it. I've only used the free program.
I joined on July 25, 2012 and have lost 28 pounds. You can use any part of it that you like. You don't have to report in every day. I use the tabs for weight, goal weight, body measurements and mood. They have food tabs, calorie tabs and food tips. What I like is there is a "Reports" tab which shows your weight loss/gain in a graph and another one showing where you are in relation to your goal.
It worked for me. It may work for you - and, if not, you're not out any money. Good luck!

Choosing between doing a weight loss program online or in meetings is really dependent on how you handle things. If you're fairly self-motivating, doing it online would definitely work. I did eDiets for several years prior to joining Weight Watchers meetings. I liked the way I wasn't left to my own devices in meetings and the accountability at the scale.
Online is definitely cheaper than meetings, if that's a factor, and you must go to a meeting once a week or pay for the missed meeting week.
Also, there are a lot of online weight loss programs that are free; SparkPeople is another site and they have a huge community so you're sure to find a group that you have things in common with.
However you decide, good luck to you in your journey.

I have had success with Sparkpeople.com. This is a wonderful (free) website that would rival Weight Watchers anytime, anyday.
