I was looking at some makeup brushes (taklon bristles) and noticed that the manufacturer stated to "wash before use."

Do you wash each of your makeup brushes before using them?  Are you supposed to?  I don't think I've ever washed a makeup brush before using it for the first time.  I'm wondering if it's something you're supposed to do...?

Sorry if this question is dumb.  I always wash new clothes before I wear them, but it never occurred to me to wash a makeup brush before I use it for the first time.

I always have. I just think I have no idea who touched them or where they were before I bought them. It is just automatic for me.

@HappyDaze  I think that way about clothing, because people try the stuff on and it may have fallen on a dirty floor, etc., but I always assumed that a brush which comes new in a package is probably not something someone has handled or that it has been polluted in any way.

If the manufacturer put this on their website, it makes me wonder if they're using chemicals during production that you would want to wash off before use.

I wash all brushes before use.

Yes, always wash new brushes. In addition to potential chemicals you mentioned, washing them removes any excess dye and loose bristles and dust. But even if packaged, brushes aren't sterile, they are created in a manufacturing process and can pick up debris and yep, bacteria along the way.
