I'm confused on how much cleanser to use. Say for instance for my length of hair the bottle says to use 16-24 pumps. Do I split those numbers, like 8 for the first cleanse and 8 for the second? I've been using 16 pumps for each cleanse. I think I'm wrong??

Also, I was curious as what does WEN stand for?

Thanks!

Ladybug, you split the recommended number of pumps - so it would be 8-10 each cleanse for you.

WEN is just NEW spelled backwards - Chaz did that because he was creating something new and totally backwards to standard shampoo/conditioner.

Welcome to WEN - if you have any other questions, please come back and ask them.

WEN is 'NEW' spelled backwards.

chin length: 6-8 pumps (from 32oz bottle) per cleanse

shoulder length: 10-12 pumps (from 32oz bottle) per cleanse

past shoulders: 12+ pumps (from 32oz bottle) per cleanse

for really long hair, increase the pumps to accommodate for the longer length of your hair.

these number change depending on the size bottle you use. if you use a 16oz bottle, take the numbers above and increase pumps by 50% (ie. 8 pumps from 32oz bottle would be 12 pumps from 16oz bottle)

the number of pumps can be less/more depending on the type of hair you have (ie. fine vs. thick/course). my hair is shoulder length but also fine, so from a 32oz bottle i use 8-10 pumps per cleanse. if my hair were course/thicker, i would need to use more pumps to accommodate the difference.

you really can't use too much. what matters most is that you use enough cleansing conditioner to the point where there's enough to be nice and creamy on your hair.

Hi Ladybug,

Using 16 pumps for both cleanses didn't hurt.

I found that out this morning when I used triple the amount of BGT trying to finish the bottle.

Get your flu shot...because I didn't.

Hi Ladybug. Yes, you would use 8 for the first cleanse and 8 for the second. The numbers on the bottle are the total pumps you are to use when you cleanse. For your hair, you could use anywhere from 16-24 pumps total, so whichever total pumps you decide to use, just split that in half for each cleanse. And, from what I've read from the ladies on this forum, WEN is NEW spelled backwords. Welcome to WEN!!

Ladybug, keep in mind that you may need a lot more CC if you have very thick and/or long hair. We so often talk about length that we might not stress enough that LOTS of hair needs more Wen. Also, if you used lots of styling products, waited several days before cleansing, etc. you may need to use more. The recommended pumps are just a starting point and you have to adjust from there.

My hair is short and fine. I use 4-5 pumps from a 16oz bottle for my first cleanse and the same for second cleanse. Always soak your hair really good before you start cleansing and add water to the cleanser once you start scrubbing it in. If you use enough you should notice it getting really creamy and frothy. If you don't feel that just add more pumps. Eventually you will get a feel for how many you need.

As your hair grows, is cut shorter, gets healthier, seasons change, etc. you will find yourself using more or less to meet your needs.

Like Honny said, it can't hurt your hair to use too much. It might hurt your pocketbook Smiley Wink We understand wanting to figure out exactly how much you need.

Good luck and come back if you have more questions/comments~~

Ladybug, welcome to the Wen forum! I see that you've already gotten the answers you were looking for. You can try the 8 pumps for your first cleanse and 8 pumps for your second cleanse; see how your hair responds.

Like others have mentioned, add plenty of water and massage in well. I'm easily distracted, so I lose track of the number of pumps that I'm using, I can tell when I have enough cleansing conditioner in my hair in two ways (1) my hair feels completely coated, from scalp to ends and I can easily fun my fingers through it (2) when I rake my fingers through (or use a comb) I have a "line" of CC on my fingers or comb. That means you're using enough. If you're raking out globs of CC, then you can probably cut back on the amount during your next cleanse.

Best of luck!

WOW!! You all are awesome!! I cannot thank you enough for all the helpful info you passed on! Chaz would be proud of you! Of course I forgot to mention my hair type!! It is past my shoulders and I consider it fine but I'm in desperate need of a haircut. I think I'm ready to take the plunge and start using my WEN correctly understanding I may have to adjust!

Gosh, you all are great and so very helpful. Thank you just doesn't seem to be enough for you all taking the time to educate me!

You are absolutely right.......the ladies here are very helpful (and knowledgeable) when it comes to Wen! For me personally, I've had such awesome results with Wen, that I want everyone else to have the same! I lurked for a long time on this board and picked up a lot of helpful tips from the long time posters. There's definitely a learning curve to Wen, but when it starts working for you, it works !! I've used Wen exclusively for over two years, and I'm not even tempted to try anything else.

For reference, my hair is fine in texture, but pretty thick. I wear it in heavy layers, shortest is jaw length, longest is below my bra strap. I generally start with about 8 pumps for each cleanse, and add more if I need it.

I always need an extra pump or two if I'd done an oil treatment the night before, or if I've had a hard run or been hiking. If my hair's really "funky", I need a bit more CC for cleansing, if it's just normally dirty, a total of 16 pumps is all I need.
