. . . I have heard that Wen is great in the beginning but produces build up on the scalp and friends have said it makes their hair feel oily and unwashed and after "x" amount of time their hair had become flat. I guess it works differently for everyone. . . .

Hi, tayflower, and welcome!! I'd also recommend the Wen tea tree oil.

Regarding the experiences that you've heard others have had with Wen, I've never experienced anything like that. You're absolutely right that everyone is different and nothing works the same for every single person. However, I can say that I have never experienced build-up on my hair or scalp. If you start to experience oily/unwashed/flat looking hair after using Wen, then I would strongly recommend that you consult the Wenners on this board or call Chaz's salon (the number is given on every product). There really is a learning curve with Wen, and if you experience any of the issues you've described then I'd bet that the Wenners on these boards or the experts at Chaz's salon can offer some great tips to help you get better results. (The most common tips for brandnew Wenners are that they're not using enough product, not adding enough of a splash of water to help the product froth up and "bloom," not rinsing & repeating, not rinsing enough, and not adding their 1 pump of leave-in (and styling creme, if you're using that, too) to absolutely soaking wet hair.)

Best of luck to you!!

No build up here either, and I was skeptical about that at first.
