I was home by 11PM. The wedding (and the bride) were beautiful.
The wedding cake (and groom's cake) arrived in time and were delicious. I think a groom's cake is a southern tradtion. The wedding cake is usually ornate and most likely white or pastel icings, the grooms cake can be wanky, decorated in sport's teams, gag style, etc. Last night's was in the shape of a Tarheel with light blue icing, leaving lips the same shade.Lol
Most of my bride's tan had come off, but bronzer stillwas used to darken her makeup a bit. She looked gorgeous coming down the aisle...no flashback from too much glitter or highlighting. She took my advice to wear her long hair down...the front/crown were curled around a flowered wreath and veil. I always advise them to look as much like themselves as possible...nothing weird in hair or makeup. She did want a crystal glued next to her eye, so I accommodated w/ lash glue. She did her nails in a clear to light blue gradiant and had blue high top sneakers to change into for the reception. Also the top layer of her skirt was removed for ease of dancing.
There was a fanatsic DJ, a buffet supper that I was all over served at 9 and I was starved. I didn't eat until 10 after the guests, of course.
As usual, a few bridesmaids (not on my makeup list) were in the room to watch the "procedure" and distracting me with questions about the makeup they had done themselves. I did some touchups and adjustments on them with no extra charge.
I always like the bridal party (females) to be somewhat co-ordinated and even with various skin tones, I can adjust lip color and blush and eye makeup to somehow look good together. ***Think of the wedding pics with everyone standing in a row and one has a red lip, the next orange or coral, the next pale pink, etc. It distracts from the bride and can throw off the photo. Yes, I know I'm OCD about these things, but I've done this long enough to know what works and more importantly what does not. I work with the photographer (the bride's brother last night) to get everything as perfect as I can. A wedding album or video is looked at for a lifetime.
The best blue ribbon prize goes to the caterer....a lighter meal due to the recent heat and humidity: devied eggs, spinach/artichoke dip, (one of my favorites), a separate salad buffet table, chicken cour de bleu, all the veggies and sweet potato casserole layered, not mashed. By the time I got to the table after the guests, I was starving.
When I got home, I showered and was asleep in 15 minutes.

@mspatmac Thanks. Definitely a tougher than usual "client". No more weddings until mid-September, so definitely a good rest in order.

Of course.....no doubts from me! Beautiful ceremony and you were instrumental in making that happen!

So glad everything went well!

@Shanus Thanks for the update.
BTW, groom's cakes are not strictly southern! I'm on the West Coast and I have seen them at a few weddings. Perhaps the custom started in the south, I have no idea.

@Shanus I thought about you last night and I'm glad things went well. One thought however: SOME wedding albums are NOT to be looked at for a lifetime.
Fifty years later and we still have ours. Somewhere.
It was a hot mess. The marriage? Made in heaven!
I couldn't have dreamed this guy!
