This is just a general statement about ALL products sold on shopping channels.
There is no doubt that sitting and watching presentations of stuff on any of the channels convinces people, me included, that they need something they really don't and may never use.
If you sit and listen, you can easily be talked into something, I odn't care who you are and how much you want to think you only buy what you want and hosts don't convince you to buy things. How many of these products would anyone ever take a second glance at if they were sitting on a store shelf? That's why these creators want the deals with a shopping channel. It gets the products out on the air to be talked about where shoppers can be convinced they need them.

I do not find them depressing nor do they make me feel insecure. They make me laugh. Really, some of the stories these vendors tell to sell their miracle products are funnier than TV comedies. And some ladies believe them. Now, that's depressing.

@Shanus The funny part is about beauty shows is that they act like if you just worry about your face.... worry about the neck up.....you will look younger.....NOT TRUE!
As we age how we walk... how we stand and carry ourselves... so much of how the neck down looks is what truelyt ages us....
so great, you have perfect hair and makeup... but you weigh 50 pounds more than you should and have a pot belly with sloped bent shoulders....
All that makeup and hair color is doing nothing to make you look good unless it comes in a package. .

No, it doesn't affect me in the least.
As far as beauty products, I use tretinoin and that is the only beauty product I need to use, other than drug store moisturizer and sunscreen.
As far as make-up, I never wore a ton of makeup, but wore more when I was younger. I discovered as I aged that less make-up makes me look younger. Used to be a time I wouldn't leave the house without mascara, not even to throw out the garbage or get the mail. I discovered recently that it really ages me. All I need now is the thinnest line of eyeliner just on the outer corner of my upper lid to define and open up my eyes.
I no longer wear foundation. I am flummoxed when I see the Befores and Afters on QVC, showing with and without foundation. Even on the young models, all I see is "cakey" rather than fresh, clean looking skin. Add the ridiculous brownish red contour line and the strange looking glittery pink illuminator, magic marker eyebrows, clumpy spider lashes and, to me, you have a clown face in the making.

ITA. Somewhere in this thread, someone mentioned good health, exercise, clean eating contributing to ageless beauty.

You're so right. We all have to find what works for us and not try a new skincare line every week. Sure, if you're using doesn't work and you're looking for something else, give it at least 6 wks.
I'm like you. At 68, less is more. I spend more time on skin care (also Retin A, SPF and Moisturizer) than on makeup. Good skincare for the last 30 yrs. allows me to not wear full coverage, cakey foundation...Tinted Moisturizer does the job w/ a little concealer.
No spider lashes here either or other extreme makeup trends.
