Count me as another happy user of NCN's Vitamin C serum. I have oily skin so only use one pump, add a couple of drops of water, and apply to my face. I like the watery consistency, it dries down quickly and one pump does not make my face feel greasy three hours later. I use the Vitamin C serum in the morning and any retinol/retin-a products in the evening.

And thank you SuzyQ3 for reminding me why I don't want to use Skinceuticals Vit. C E Ferulic serum, lol! I forgot that stuff has chemicals I don't want to put on my skin and for a ridiculous amount of money!

Correct me if I am wrong but aren't we supposed to NOT mix Vit. C and retinol together? I thought each one cancelled out the other.

Vit C and retinol are actually very effective together tho some might find it can sometimes be too strong for their skin to use together. I have mentioned this a few times here that a number of dermatologists locally create their own special formulas consisting of Vit C, retinol and hydroquinone. Due to the high incidence of melasma they see here, creating their own formulas has been the easiest way to help their patients w/o requiring them to use multiple products.

I've read recently that dermatologists consider vit c and retinol to be powerhouse products that most of their patients will benefit from incorporating into their skincare routine. Many also like the addition of a good glycolic. I, more often that not, apply my C serum first ( I use NCN's and it absorbs into my skin within 1 - 2 minutes) then follow that with my retinol product and have never had a problem.

You might be thinking about copper and vit c as generally they should be avoided being used together - they can negate the effects of each. There are some brands that have created their C and copper to work well together, such as Isomers, because they use MAP as their source of C but generally it is best to not use copper and a C serum at the same time unless you know they are compatible.

Nope, and that's not a reflection on that specific brand.

I'm not a big experimenter. I tend to stick with what I think is working well for me.

In general, I avoid skincare lines on shopping channels, especially that primarily promote kits. That whole spiel is overwhelming and confusing, to say nothing of the annoying hype and the potential for impulse buying.

I buy just the exact products I want for cleanser, toner, serums, and moisturizers, some of which I found out about here and then did some research before trying.

Thanks, wackers! Trying to separate the retinol and Vit. C has been a conundrum for me. Yes, I too am trying to continue to address my melisma during the day while using hydroquinone at night. I appreciate the time you too to give me a thorough answer.

Love Kitten - I have used the Isomers Vitamin C Stem Serum. It is a great serum but it's packaged in a dropper bottle. I didn't think a lot about until I used a vitamin c in a pump. The results are much better when the vitamin c is packaged correctly. A lot of ladies on here have posted over and over about the proper packaging being very important. Now I know what they mean. I'm using ASDM Beverly Hills 15% MAP Vitamin c serum. It works great for me since my skin is a little sensitive to L-Ascorbic acid. A lot of women who use NCN say that it's gentle and the addition of MAP helps with that. I haven't tried it. I wish it was available in a trial size like some of her other products.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum. It's a vitamin C serum with different types of C and it's billed as a collagen booster and it's magical. I use it with RetinolResQ at night and my skin has never looked this good with any other skincare I've tried including SKINN, Lancome, Isomers & Perricone. My skin was always blotchy and now looks like I'm wearing foundation when I'm not. At over 60 it glows, is plump, and the texture and pores are better, and it's firmer. It's $48 per ounce, but I got 3 months out of it just using it in the morning. I know it's working as when I mixed it with the Aplpha Hydrox Souffle, my results weren't as good as using it alone.

The only other C I've used was the Devita 20% one, and it left my skin irritated, and more blotchy. This combo works with the RetinolResQ!!! I think I read once the TS was Sephora's best selling serum.

I'm glad you like his Truth Serum. The ingredients do not appeal to me because of all the potential irritants. They're just so unnecessary:

Water, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Calcium Ascorbate, Sorbitol, Glycerin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Euphrasis Officinalis Extract, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Oleth-20, Hydroxyethylcellulose, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Benzophenone-4, Sodium Hyaluronate, Thioctic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Citric Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Limonene, Linalool, Citral, Fragrance, Yellow 6

What I see in the mirror is more important to me than percentages and ingredients. Whatever is in there is making my skin look amazing, and that's the most important thing! I've used Isomers and SKINN that had amazing ingredient decks and they did nothing! It's the end result that counts, not how you got there!

Maestra - you are very welcome. It can get so confusing at times trying to keep track of ingredients and what works best with what and what doesn't.. I have a dear friend whose derm prescribed his own proprietary cream and her skin looks great. His formula combines HQ, Vit C and retinol and she applies it twice a day, obviously following up in the AM with a very effective sunscreen.

HappyDaze~

"Both Nanci's and Paula's vitamin C's are more of a thin liquid formula that sink in quickly rather than a lotion type formula. I prefer the more lightweight, watery type formulas as well, then they don't feel like one more layer on my face!"

Exactly! Thanks!!
