Not a proponent of Witch Hazel. If you have sensitive irrated skin, lay off everything and buy some Aveeno Calm and Restore Hydrating Face Serum for Sensitive Skin. Then maybe add the mositurizer after a week or so. I don't have any clinical advice. I just know if it was me, I'd lay off the hard stuff and just use Aveeno. Please don't use bar soap. Aveeno also makes a face cleanser...

I think I will first discontinue everything that I am using.
Secondly, it probably is a good idea to see a dermatologist even though I wanted to avoid that option. If it takes awhile to get an appointment, @monicakm that Aveeno looks like something to try until then.
@Drythe I'll definitely return to the boards after seeing the doctor. Thank you also for the birthday wishes.
Finally, thank you ALL for the suggestions (I'll make a copy) and for being kind through my mid-life crisis.

I was curious about the jojoba oil that you suggested from @SillieMee and that is exactly the brand that I used to use.

Your skin could be reacting to a number of things. Hormonal changes ( thyroid?), stress, allergies, new detergents, shampoos, hair color, etc. can all cause skin to react. I'd see a dermatologist just to be sure nothing is going on. Then, I'd stop trying new products. Use the purest, most gentle cleanser you can find. Find a "clean", fragrance free gentle moisturizer and use that. Period. If you tolerate that you've won. My derm said all skin really needs is a good moisturizer. If you like oil, try Josie Maran's Argan Oil. It's pure and gentle.

If you don't want to spend money on a dermatologist right now I'd suggest either going with CeraVe or Aveeno hydrating gentle cleanser and a plain moisturizer. The CeraVe lotion or cream repairs and restores your skin's natural protective barrier which has probably been compromised if it's red or irritated. Just a reminder, stay away from hot water, just use lukewarm water to cleanse.

I think switching to bland products right now would be helpful as it sounds like your skin is going through a cranky patch! Look for cleansing and moisturizing products that are fragrance free. Eucerin, Cetaphil, Oil of Olay, Cerave, to name a few. Use tepid water, wash and pat gently. Use just maybe the cleanser and moisturizer and that is all for a bit until you see if this calms your skin down. If it's not improving, I would say, see a derm. and give your concerns to them.

@NewNickname1x1000 @monicakm I totally agree with the Aveeno recommendation. It is gentle and reduces redness and irritation.
@NewNickname1x1000 As far as enlarged pores, etc., these issues may be clogged pores over the last several years sometimes caused by cleansing oils that are not followed up with a second cleanse. In your case, the oils were left on the skin perhaps with debris from cleaning the face.
I'd also recommend checking with a derm or your PCP to see hormone levels, stress, thyroid, etc. Skin's needs change from day to day and season to season and at different ages. Skincare should also be adjusted to reflect this.
Let us know how it works out.

If you're not able to visit a derm, I agree with @monicakm . Stop all products and use the ones she suggested.

When we get to our mid 50s, our skin turnover rate slows down. My skin was changing at that time, too.
But you also stated that you have redness and some inflammation. Perhaps look into oils that are known to be anti-inflammatory -- hemp, sesame, tamanu.
I've read, too, that facial redness can be a circulatory issue.
If you could pinpoint the cause of the redness.....and different specialists will have different ideas.....that's the challenge.
(I had no sensitivities, so my changes were easy to treat.)

Thank you for the clarification on the Rosewater sprays. I purchased the Alteya!
I have the Heritage at home and will pass it on to someone else.
