I'm using the .04% gel 2X/wk and still get a little peeling around my mouth/chin.  It's not a big deal, but wondering if I should just try the cream instead.  Of course, I still have 2 tubes left.

@monicakm  & @Icegoddess , If you want/need that initial sloughing (the side effect; i.e., peeling), maybe try to up the usage to every other night.

(However, I would never advise redness as a condition of the skin. That would be harming your skin barrier.)

Maybe that's why I'm not experiencing any flaking or redness.  I've been using an exfoliant (Tatcha Rice Powder) and a Retinol for years.

I could be totally wrong about this but in my mind, I feel like gel products are harsher/dryer than their cream counterparts???  What do you think?

Re: Tretinoin Update

Creams are thicker and that makes them slower acting and that makes them better for sensitive and/or dry skin types.

Gels are usually formulated for oily skin types and a choice product for acne treatment. Gels are quick-acting when compared with creams. They may not be compatible with sensitive or dry skin types. If you have sensitive skin then maybe try a micro tret. Micro tret is most always formulated in a gel b/c of the encapsulation. Micro tret doesn't mean micro dose. Micro means encapsulation or time release where the tret is delivered into the skin in small (micro) doses over an extended time.

I've never even tried the cream version.  I went with the tretinoin micro since it was supposed to be gentler than the cream.  But, like I said, I'm still getting a little peeling at 2X/week.  I went back to 1X/week through the winter, and went back to 2X/week a couple of months ago, so I've been doing this for awhile.

I think you may be right.   I've used PTR Retinol throughout the week and Tatcha Rice Powder at least 4-5x a week for years.

I wanted to try the Tretinoin,  even though my derm said what I was already doing was very effective.   I got the .025% cream and it has never caused dryness or peeling.   I've been using it about 2x a week for about 5 months and the PTR about 3-4x a week.

@monicakm   Hi..   I am not.  I'm almost viewing it as a PREVENTATIVE treatment at this point,  as I do most of the skin care that I use.   Almost impossible to reverse aging,  but I truly think you can help to slow it down.  I think the PTR Retinol is helping to slow down age spots and the Tatcha rice powder helps ready my skin for the great products that i use.

The one product that I recently started using (about a year) and saw results pretty quickly is the Prai Ageless Throat & Dec cream.  That was a game changer.  You just have to use it properly or it pills.

Same here @nyc1   I'm mostly using it as a preventative.  I have some flesh colored under the skin bumps on the top of my cheeks (where highlighter would go). One day they're there and then they're gone.  I never know.  That's my main goal for the Tret.  Everything else is prevention.  Bumps are gone right now but unless the tret has done its thing (and I doubt it yet) they'll be back.  If I don't see any improvement in a couple of months, I may break down and actually see a dermatologist.  Still not having any of the redness or flaking associated with Tret.
