Re: Tretinoin Update and Question

@monicakm   Sometimes when your skin becomes dry (tret, acids, etc.) it may produce oil to compensate. Hope that helps.

Re: Tretinoin Update and Question

There is a small percentage of the population who cannot use tretinoin. But for those who can use it, it's best not to discontinue applying it regularly. When you stop applying it for periods of time, that will only do two steps backwards. Skin reacts to tret in a progressive fashion. When you stop it's like going back to day-one. Instead try a lower dose or mix it with moisturizer and continue using it regularly, don't stop. Keep up with exfoliation and hydration. Soon the side-effects will subside. Be patient and persistent.

Hi Monicakm,

You're very welcome.

I did want to add, as I forgot to tell you in my post, that one of the products that really got me through the peeling, irritation phase was the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Balm Vitamin B5 Soothing Therapeutic Cream. I applied it the next morning over my moisturizer and if it wasn't for that stuff I would have given up on Tretinoin.

I am telling you that stuff was a miracle product for me. I HIGHLY recommend using it, especially the next day. I used it for a good solid long period of time.

It took a good 6 - 8 weeks with continual daily usage of this Cicaplast to help my skin. My worst peeling areas were my chin, around my nose, my upper lip, and my middle forehead - these are all my SUPER oily areas of my face - these are the areas that I used it.

I also started applying vaseline on the side of my eyes, around the very creas of my nose, and on the corners of my mouth.

My peeling eventually stopped, and I no longer need the Cicaplast, but I still use the vaseline on those sensitive areas.

Re: Tretinoin Update and Question

I appreciate all of the helpful tips and words of encouragement but I've decided to stop and go back to what my complexion and I liked and what was working.  And go back to what I was missing which was a nearly flawless complexion.  Most likely I'm just not tuff enough to wait out the bad to get to the good.  I've never been good at that.  When summer is over in TX (sometime in Nov), I'll make an appt with a derm just to see if I'm on the right track and/or what he suggests.

@SilleeMee

Susan Yara is one that can't do Tret.  I'm going to rewatch her video to see if we experienced the same thing.
