Re: Toothpaste. What do you use and why?

Colgate because that's what my husband prefers.  It doesn't matter to me.  Plus, it usually goes on sale at Kroger for $1.

I use Pepsodent or Ultrabrite. Both are very inexpensive. Haven't had a cavity in over 25 years.

I use Perodontax toothpaste because it contains stannous fluoride which is way more effective than the more common sodium fluoride. Both kinds of fluoride are good for your teeth but stannous fluoride is an antibacterial and protects your teeth and gums from cavities, plaque, gingivitis and tooth sensitivity. Sodium fluoride just protects against cavities and not much else.

I also use a stannous fluoride treatment gel (not a toothpaste) and that strengthens my teeth even more, keeps my gums and teeth in top shape and me out of the dentist's chair.

ETA - I've long known about the benefits of fluoride. I grew up as a military brat where fluoride treatments were done every six months. Because of that I never got a cavity in my life and I still had all of my teeth, including all four wisdoms, up until recently when scleroderma made some teeth fall out. At any rate don't dismiss the benefits of using fluoride products...they really do save your teeth.

I Find your answers to be very knowledgeable and I will start using that. My dentist recommended the use of Act fluoride rinse and I haven't had any cavities since. Priorto that I've had a lot of work done. At the present time I am using Tom's of Maine. Thanks for all your helpful advice.

Re: Toothpaste. What do you use and why?

I grew up on Colgate.  I  have never had (not even baby teeth) a cavity.  I'm almost 62.  Since being married for 40 years, I've used both Colgate and Crest.  The one I've been using for the last several years is Crest Pro-Health Advanced Gum Protection.  I like the little grindy bits that polish the teeth.  Feels like I've been to the dentist Smiley Happy  My dad has never had a cavity.  He grew up in a part of the state where there was natural fluoride in the water.  My mom and brother haven't been as fortunate.

I've been using a special high fluoride prescription toothpaste I get from my dentist.  I have a tendency to get cavaties and it reduces them hugely.  It's a little pricey but saves me a lot of money.

@Kachina624 If you have presciption plan, see if that will pay for it.

I've had a Rx rinse prescribed after tooth extraction and the insurance paid for it.

Toms of Maine Wicked Fresh Spearmint Ice toothpaste.  I like the taste of spearmint in my mouth and it cleans my teeth.

Colgate Total Gel - I don't like the way paste leaves my teeth feeling.

Used to use Mentadent for many years, but can't find it anymore. I tried others that were just meh. Then tried Pepsodent and I have been using it for some time now. I like it, and you can't beat the price, my DH is happy with it as well.
